Sorry to hear of all those not feeling well, hope your numbers are better today Kadison.

Weather not bad here today just a bit gloomy but no rain thank goodness. Keep safe everyone.

Mammy & baby sis back from visiting other sis in Germany tomo so looking forward to seeing them.

Just had call sainsbob following my trouting a few days ago. Nice manager very apologetic and I'm going to collect a £10 voucher in store tomo. :T

Does anyone know what time CBB is on please?

You did better than me, I got a jar of something that had December 2013 on the lid and all I got was £3 of nectar points - oh well, better than nothing.

Well I'm looking forward to DD starting school :rotfl:

Actually on that point, would like the views of the Elite on this please. DD turned 3 in August but before the xmas hols her preschool gave me an application handbook and advised me to apply for a school place for DD for Sept 2014, is that right?! She started preschool in Setember and already she's due to start school shortly after turning 4?

I always loved school dinners :D On St. Patrick's Day (My school was called St. Patrick's) they served green custard! I can't stand custard but thought that was a nice touch :)

Yes hun, that's right. My DS1 will be 4 in April and starts school in September. I've done the application already. Think it had to be in be 16th January

    Evening all

Didn't hear postman this morning so only just checked behind front door curtain. Nice envelope from sun perks with my £20 of tesco vouchers. Just cancelled subscription. Was offered another £10 voucher to stay another month but cheaper to cancel and wait for next £1 email offer (like my son has just done;))

Lazy day. Going to catch up on last nights cbb in a mo. Very pleased to see Liz Jones in there as she will hopefully be very interesting. Still want to know who her Rock Star boyfriend is. Not happy about Jim Davidson. Saw him many years ago and paid a fortune only for him to get nearly to end of joke and get cross as someone got up for toilet and he walked off stage. Ok he was entertaining but a total c word. No refund offered either.
Sam might be interesting as I know her dad has had a colourful life which is not mentioned in towie but my money is on Liz Jones.

Hi all: New Year's resolution: Post more even if I don't think I've got anything useful to contribute :) Hope I haven't missed too many glitches.
Just got back from a fantastic New Year 2 day break MSE style for family of 4:
Overnight stay at 5* Metropolitan Hotel, Park Lane, panoramic views over Hyde Park - £18 per room (Grabbit glitch)
Transport: All day hop-on/hop off Thames River boat cruise completely free thanks to Travelzoo offer and code via Grabbit
Meals - 2 course set lunch at Bank Restaurant (mostly paid for with 2 x Club-Individual cards which came pre-loaded with £20 each, thanks to Freebies board)
Train travel to London - almost free thanks to Redspottedhanky codes accumulated during the year (MSE newsletters).
Dinner at 5-Star Hilton Hotel (paid for using BuyaGift vouchers originally bought when a different offer was half price and combined with a code (via codes board), but almost due to expire so exchanged for 4 meals with wine at Hilton (added £10 cash)
Extra drinks/sandwiches etc picked up at Tesco Express using £40 moneycard sent to me after Tesco messed up their pre-Xmas clubcard promotion (I only emailed them about it after seeing a thread on the Food board).
Amazing 2 days in London, would not have been possible without MSE - You've gotta love it when a plan comes together :beer:

Wow, sounds fantastic! Very :money: :T :j

I thought I had a good one (possibly my best ever) - £5 Airwick surely £3.15 each elsewhere? - but was sadly not to be. The Fairy washing powder/tabs at £4 I suspected might lose out although, in the event, the other Fairy, the dishwasher one at £5, turned out to be twice that price:eek: at T, S and W. But, did give a (small) voucher vs my favourite store, Fairy dishwasher returning N/A (I've no idea!) and Fairy liquitabs going £4 vs £4. Someone else can sort the format below out, as doubtless my phone service will kick me off again before I can do anything! Posting as might give a couple of new items vs Morries. Confirmation on the Forest Fruit Go Ahead! as well, A's price now down from £1.65 to £1 (still not 10% cheaper:rotfl: than M) - consider this an amendment to the M list (item still being kept on there though!).

Most roux thickened sauces are simmered for at least 20 minutes to cook out any starchy taste created by the flour.
Excellent point about the roux to thicken soups, but sometimes I don't want to wait to cook out the starch; and I usually have various bags of leftover breadcrumbs in the freezer, waiting to be used.

Thank you for this. We had lots of bread going stale last week, I hate wasting food, so insisted on blitzing the leftover bread in the mini-chopper and freezing (even though we struggled to fit them in freezer and snapped one of the freezer drawers in the process :(). Had NO idea what I would do with it, as hardly ever make my own stuffing and normally only use to add a little to the top of a pasta bake - usually even forget that. Now I realise, it was fate preparing me for my new life as a soup queen :j:j
I also use leftover breadcrumbs as a quick 'n' easy crunchy crumble topping for savoury dishes - basically, any stew or pie filling (replacing pastry). Either just sprinkle the breadcrumbs over the top, and pop in the oven until brown. Or I like to mix with any bits of leftover cheese, grated, for a more gratin-like topping. (Hard Italian cheeses like Parmesan etc are particularly nice.)

Or as bubbs says, use breadcrumbs in sweet dishes too

You can also make a treacle tart if you have lots of breadcrumbs, just mix with the treacle/syrup put in pastry case bingo!
