“After reading about the ‘busy drawer’ I went upstairs to sort mine out (I call it my 'messy drawer'), and this is what I found: odd curtain hooks, bits of string, clips with a hairnet not in a packet, odd buttons, typed labels cut from envelopes, small plastic packets containing an odd button and thread for urgent repairs from new garments, bits of ribbons cut from inside blouses or jumpers, spools from a sewing machine I used to have, bobbins with the odd length of cotton enough to sew a button on, elastic bands now perished and stuck together, odd paper clips which need to be nipped together with pliers before using, odd press-studs, a rubber with short bits of pencils already sharpened, blunt scissors which I can’t get my fingers into, half a packet of crepe paper, a small box with decorative bows for use on presents, odd sizes of safety pins stuck onto a magnet, a small pincushion, a darning mushroom with cards of mending wool, paper stapler and clips, crimping scissors and two pairs of plastic ones for children.
