Just to add to the gammon with gravy debate...I wouldn't but some might like it. How about making a trio of sauces....parsley, onion and a meat based gravy then you've covered all bases

I have another question for you. We are eating out tonight as a family....somewhere posher than usual.
They add a 10% discretionary service charge to the bill automatically.

Would you pay it even if the service was good or decline and add your own tip?

Thanks zippy for the new thread.

I ve had slight food poisoning . Ate some pizza yesterday evening and don't think I cooked it well enough. Been suffering ever since with the usual sickness and d*******a , lovely. Still had to venture out today though. Went to Morissons and all I bought was the 3 tins of salmon for hubby and a Christmas Yule log. I remember last year they were reduced to £2 but were still £3. 50 :(.

Oh Emerald...not good when it's the season of weird and wonderful food combinations.

You take care and drink plenty water!

    Hi TM

Call me a grump but I don't agree with tipping unless you genuinely receive good service. If service is bad, I wont tip

Happy Christmas Purdita:santa2:As far as how you eat your gammon is debatable I do not think there is a right or wrong way to have it.If you have it hot my preference would be with a white sauce or onion sauce. If you have it with turkey as a roast then I guess some people would have gravy

    Like mother like daughter ;);)
It's Nikkilala who is debating it. :rotfl::rotfl:
She reckons gammon and gravy is just wrong but others (me included) say it's perfectly fine to eat it that way.
I always have gammon with my roast turkey then have it cold later.

I guess you won't be having it with your christmas dinner though ;)

I have just done my small one in coke for tonight's meal, but that will be cold with salad and chips
My husband says he will leave me if I don't stop shopping......... God I will miss that man.

From a personal point of view. In a posh place, if the service was acceptable or better I'd pay it. If the service was rubbish I wouldn't but it'd have to be pretty bad not to pay.
10% is considered a good rule of thumb as a tip in such establishments ;)
