OS DAILY - Monday 23rd December 2013

Options
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

  • Good morning everyone :)

Still full of cold but there is always today and tomorrow to shift it .... or it's an excuse for plenty of whisky!

Off shopping for DD's Christmas food, still no idea what we are having on Christmas Day, neither DH or I seem to care, so could be beans on toast :rotfl:

Oh well at least we have plenty of nice things to drink and lots of sweets to eat.

Better get going so there is no-one in the shops ... yeah right.

Well wishes to all sick people and pets and hugs for those that need or just want them. Keep well, safe and warm and have a super day :)

    It's Christmas Eve eve :D

    Morning :santa2:

Jools I hope you're OK, and that you had a peaceful day yesterday xx

Thanks for the comments about my wreath :D I'm thrilled that I actually finished it :D I was originally aiming for something like THIS from Attic24, but Christmas-stylee. I know how to do all those stitches so it'll be easy, right? WRONG!! I got sooo frustrated, I almost threw the thing in the bin :D I used some polystyrene packaging (from my microwave) cut into a ring, some leftover yarn from other projects and the decs were from a friend's wedding (six years ago). They married just before Christmas and the centrepieces were glass bowls filled with Christmassy things. So it's very OS :D

Mr tru isn't happy because he has to go in to work and he likes to be the one who cooks the gammon – we always cook it on the 23rd, ready for the 24th when family come round. So I'll be doing it – put it in the oven, baste halfway through cooking, take it out when it's done. Why is he so miffed about not doing this? Men are weird things :rotfl:

I'll whizz the hoover round today and do a bit of dusting. The dusting will take about 30 seconds, I've covered almost every surface with Christmassy things so not much to do :D Mr tru is buying bread and milk on the way home from work. Must remember to take the turkey and chicken drumsticks out of the freezer. Just remembered miss tru's boyfriend's presents, I haven't wrapped them yet.

    Morning Everyone :)

So yesterday was a slower day, end we watched 'It's a Wonderful Life' plus 'Bob the Builder - Winter Games' and 2 Postman Pat Christmas DVDs! I made the Roly Poly Mince Pies... they were sooooooo sweet! definitely need to be eaten with ice-cream :)

Today we have very little planed, we have 3 more Christmas DVDs lined up... and tonight after dinner (which is Sausages, Croquettes and Beans) we are going to a friends to see Santa and his Sleigh visit her street :)

Unfortunately I do have to do the washing today *sigh* and make a few loaves of bread, but with DH help it's nothing too tedious.

I'm getting very excited about tomorrow... we start celebrations at 2pm (after DD1 naptime) as in Germany (I'm half German) we celebrate on Christmas Eve. So to keep the tradition alive, the children will get a few gifts, put out signs, and make tree decorations, etc... We'll Skype friends in Norway and open gifts from them and visa versa (they also celebrate Christmas Eve)...

It'll get the children in the mood for Christmas Day :D

I hope everyone has a great day, I'm so excited it's nearly Christmas :)

PS. For all those with colds, I wish you health for Christmas x

    Morning everyone

Hugs to all those that are feeling sad/poorly x

Still very dark here, but sounds quite blustery. Have put a load in the WM - but it won't be going out on the line as too blustery!

DH up and getting ready for work. Boys still in their pits, will leave them there as they can get up at their leisure.

The day at mum and dad's was great yesterday, lunch was lovely, we had coconut and tamarind chicken curry with rice, and for starters had poppadums and chutney's etc - curry was very flavoursome and not hot - mum and dad don't like curry/hot spicy food and they loved it. I made the desserts and did a cheesecake and profiteroles - everything was eaten and enjoyed. Bro and SIL gave out parcels and wanted everyone to open them as they won't be here at Xmas - so he and SIL opened theirs from us and sis and BIL.

Not sure what we're having for dinner tonight - won't be anything to difficult as I'm at work all day today - I'm going to leave home early this morning to go to work as I have to go past MrT and L**l to get to work and need just 4 things - if they don't look too rammed will choose which one to go into - none of the items I need are in need of a fridge - so can safely be left in the car whilst I'm at work. Won't be going back to SM's any more this side of Xmas. What we haven't got now we can do without.

Hoping work will be steady today - as it does make the day pass reasonably quickly.

Need to crack on, so I can battle the crowds at the SM.

    Keep safe and well x

  • Good morning all, kids are still asleep having watched Harry Potter last night. Just enjoying a latte before I get dressed and going.

Busy day ahead, need to take some stuff back for refunds, buy a bottle of mulled wine, mince pies and a poinsettia, drop off large gifts at mums and clean clean clean. Then finish the wrapping tonight and write the rest of the cards to be delivered tomorrow.

    Good morning,
DH cleaned and tidied the kitchen yesterday & everywhere else isn't too bad apart from our bedroom so will do that in a bit.I've emptied the dw and put away and sprayed the oven with cleaner-had to wait while Lylapup went out for a wee, don't want her sniffing that stuff

Hoping to get the turkey today if my friend is still going to the market, otherwise I'll live dangerously and leave it till tomorrow :D when DH should be around,I know he has to visit his accountant in town so could do it then .

I fancy making some of the mincemeat slices off another thread on here but I'll still do some mince pies, again pastry recipe off here.I've done the 'best mince pie ever' pastry for the last few years and it is lovely.I'm going to have to juggle things in the fridge to fit a turkey in though:eek:I think tea will be something very simple.Hope you all have good days and don't get too stressed xx

  • Good morning

Been up since 6 ...Its a busy day for me today, I couldn't sleep due to have soooo many things running through my mind, so I thought I'd get up, not done much though other than have a few cup of tea's, wrote a few lists of things I need to do and had a fuss with Lizzie our cat, she's a funny old thing, only like fuss in the morning, the rest of the day she won't have nothing to do with us, so I love mornings with her

DH & DS are still fast asleep in bed, not suprised as ds was up in the night again with his awful cough.

List of things to do today
Nip argos and pick the last 2 presents up, I've ordered dh a copper band for his wrist, he suffers with terrible joint pain especially in his wrists my friend recommended a copper bracelet so thought we'd give it a go, so that is another thing for his stocking, also got to pick my friend a jigsaw puzzle up, couldn't think what else to get her, I know she likes puzzles so that will have to do.
Make 2 cheesecakes, 1 for us and 1 to take with us when we go to a friends tomorrow for tea
go farm shop and collect veg, eggs and a few other bits
go Pet shop and collect pet food, a bale of hay and straw
Nip into Folkestone and collect a pair pyjamas for DS ( he has new pyjamas every xmas eve)
Hoover all through house, make beds, polish, wash kitchen floor and bleach the toilets, then that is me done cleaning wise for the next 3 days.
Wrap a few more presents up I have found which I thought I'd wrap
DH has decided he doesn't want to do the SM shop on his own so I've gotta go and do that with him too, think I'll do this beofre doing anything else, get it over and done with quick

Hopefully the rain will hold off, I very much doubt it though as the weather is saying high wind and rain! its not doing much at the mo so hopefully they are wrong.

Hope everyone has a lovely day ((hugs)) to those that need themxx

  • Morning:)
One more lot of sheets to do today when eldest son gets up - in the meantime I'm about to jump in the shower and then get all the towels washed and dried.
Living and Dining rooms will be dusted today and both floors wiped over, and at some point I need to collect my youngest from a friends' house where he had a sleepover last night.
Boys and OH are off to footy this evening, weather permitting - I really won't want them to go if we get that wind and rain we've been promised.
Have a peaceful and safe day everyone x
