Fuerteventura or Lanzarote: there are no big cities, you can bus around the whole island, climate is excellent.

But we often go off together, then DH collapses in a cafe reading while I carry on exploring a bit.

  • What about a cruise with lots of port stops? We are the same as you OP I could laze around all day and he can't sit still. For this reason we picked a cruise for our honeymoon. Lazy days mixed with sightseeing when we were in port. Was the perfect mix for us both.

Sorrento in Italy is good if you get a hotel with a pool. Lovely weather, good food, and a train ride to visit Pimpeii, Herculaneum or climb Mount Vesuvius. Or a ferry to the Island of Capri as well as just hanging out at the many restaurants in Sorrento.

Sounds magical! Some of my family have recently been to sorrento and it looks stunning!

Both great suggestions, neither of us have been to either!

What a great idea! Wondering if there would be anything in our budget, I will have a look though. Grandparents been on many a cruise and always come back with great stories!
  • Vegas is brilliant, we've been 5 times now, keep on getting drawn back! Good idea to save up and do it in style, there are so many awesome hotels.

What about Egypt? Personally I've never fancied it, but an ex colleague of mine went year after year and she loves sitting round the pool! But they also did camel rides and hot air balloon rides too.

Egypt is a grey area really - I know he wouldn't enjoy camel rides etc and I'm terrified of heights! Also I'm very fair skinned so I think it'd be off the cards in summer. But has got some sights I'd love to see!

The Thomson cruises are at the lower end of the price range - it's all buffet dining and the ships are older, but we went on a Mediterranean cruise last summer for £3.5k for the four of us. It's a great way of seeing the big European cities - but you're not going to get an in-depth experience of anywhere.

You might want to check on the situation in Egypt before you book - it has been a bit "interesting" this last year, especially around Cairo and the other big cities, but IIRC the resort areas on the Red Sea have been ok.

I would suggest Tunisia around the Sousse area. You can relax on a beach or by the pool while he could explore the local area - with relatively cheap taxis or train journeys a great way to explore the area.

Do your research before you book a cruise: my sister took her family on one and the children are young adults. She knows a friendly travel agent who said "if you were going on your own, I'd suggest company A, you'd love it. With the children however you'd probably do better with company B, there are lots of activities for them. Don't use company C, you would be half the age of most of the other passengers and I don't think it would suit you."

A Nile Cruise like THIS one. You can sunbathe and watch the world drift by (it really is like something out of the Bible!) and he can go off at the crack of dawn to see the temples :T.
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

Malta would probably work well for both of you - and the public transport is excellent

Jordan, Israel and Dahab would be good choices, plenty of beach time and loads of options for sightseeing and activities, take him to the red sea and sign him up for a diving or kite surfing course.
