There's no point in reporting to police it's not a criminal offence for a friend to refuse to hand back a gift
The network don't require an incident number to mark the item lost or stolen
It's not just about the money

Exactly...as he caused the last bill to be £131, another big one next month would be bounced back
I'll keep on the phone to T Mobile to try and find some amicable solution, and pester the numpty that caused this for the money in the meantime.

You don't appear to be taking any off the good advice that you have already been given.

Ring the network, tell them the basics and ask them to block/bar the phone, they can arrange to make the sim and phone unusable.

You then request a replacement sim which could be used by a true friend that you can definitely trust.

If you leave the phone unblocked the debt will just keep mounting up month by month.

Sell your phone to pay off as much of the current debt as possible.

You may not be bothered about a trashed credit file now ....but six years is a long time !!

just phone them and have it blocked let him get his own contract if he refuses to give back thephone
    What goes around-comes around
  • For anyone interested, I blocked the phone and then managed to recover it from him. He's cracked the bloody screen and bought things off FB that go on the bill next month (I looked in his Gmail account)....

I'll have to just cut my losses, and maybe use it as a work phone or something. I don't think getting the screen replaced will be cheap. Now got 2 phones on 2 year contracts :(.

Lesson learned, i'll never trust anyone again!

If you've reported it stolen to the network and its been blocked because of that, you won't be able to use it again.

Does it not occur to you that sometimes phones are recovered once stolen? Of course they can unblock it!
  • It's the sim which needs to be recovered. Presumably that came back with the phone - or else the problem will continue when they put the sim in a different phone.

No, you cancel the SIM so it can't be used. 2 minute call to explain, SIM is blocked and phone is unblocked. Easy. :)
  • Unnecesaary if they recovered the sim with the phone.
