Thanks for all the great replies everyone....maybe I should clarrify. The caravan was collected and checked by the buyer, but payment was made via paypal at the time of purchase. He's asking for a full refund via paypal. It was an auction bid and as described. Im just worried, he is either just trying to get his money back and scrap it, or its just dodgy.
Surely as he has checked it before leaving, and is happy with it - then thats sold as seen?
Does anyone know of any legal jargon, or legistation i can quote?

Point him to the eBay rules, stating that it's not eBay's problem.

IMO, he was happy with it when he towed it away and therefore his only restitution will be with the courts, of which he will have to prove the claim. eBay will side with you, as per their terms and conditions.

To whoever mentioned cash on collection is not allowed; it's just a case of having to offer Paypal. I've bought a number of things on eBay, and always asked to pay in cash, mainly as I was having to go and get the products in the first place.

  • You do not need any 'legal jargon'.

Be careful what you reply, do not get into any correspondence with him.

Tell him that he had adequate time to inspect the item. It was perfectly as described and you will not be refunding.

Then, do not reply to any further eBay message.

Block him from bidding in future.

If he does manage to open a case it should close upon review as caravans are exempt both eBay and Paypal protection for buyers.

In future, although you cannot refuse Paypal (except for categories such as this) you may leave yourself open to being scammed allowing it with a collection.

If things escalate, come back here BEFORE you do anything/reply.

I don't know the technicalities, but is there any truth in what he is claiming, ie could it be true that's it's caused damage?
If so, could you take it back, fix and re advertise.

Also for future sales, never allow someone to pay by paypal and then collect.

  • How is he going to return it??? Seems to me the Buyer is after a cheap/free caravan, or he's crashed it.
I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.
  • There won't be any ebay or paypal buyer protection, but the lack of these doesn't stop the buyer from attempting a credit or debit card chargeback if their paypal account was funded through a card.

Have you transferred the funds out of paypal and into the bank?

No one else getting deja vu ?

There was a long-running thread a few years ago regarding a caravan with damp problems - the buyer took the seller to court and won - much to the surprise of everyone who had contributed to thread!

I do remember that, it became a real epic.
