It's a diesel. Petrol would be the 3.5V8 doing about 15mpg on a good day! Unless you go for the LPG conversion.

Or a 2.0litre. Wo betide anyone with a mpi.

Also, if you're sitting at the recommended distance from the highway code, you'll have ample view and braking distance.

The further ahead you can see the easier it is to anticipate what will happen, which will always be safer, as well as allowing you to drive more economically.

    Who cares?
Well, I suppose you would do if you had the amount of mudslides that we do in Italy!!!

Thats the whole point of "luxury" items. You dont *need* them.
    Thats ok, it's your money

You're clearly not grasping this. These cars are not bought for that purpose. They're bought because people *want* one, not because they *need* one.

To be honest the biggest preventer to me making progress in the snow is all the other dolts on the road who cant drive.

The last really bad winter here i'd a diesel Merc and it got me about just fine.
Thats good I suppose, you probably live close to or on a main road. But then, your winters in the UK are nothing like we get here close to the mountains. Law here is winter tyres or chains carried during set periods, then perhaps the "dolts" could drive as fast as you.

Thats nice, but does it have heated leather, reversing cams, 28 speakers, DVD players, 4 zone climate control, xenons, 20 inch alloys and parking sensors? :D
Yes, it has heated leather seats, with low and high settings. No reversing cams, as I learnt to drive when you used mirrors and common sense for reversing. 28 speakers does not make the music sound any different. Why do you need a dvd player, as you can't watch a film while you are driving. Climate control ...... yes. Xenon lights, not needed. 16 inch alloys, fitted currently with Pirelli Scorpion winter tyres. Rear parking sensors, yes, do not need them at the front as can tell where the bonnet ends!!:D

I thought a DVD player in a car was a waste of time until I got stuck in a five hour queue on the French side of the Channel Tunnel.

oh come on! you need a better reason than ME!! I'm just the devil's advocate - do you own a farm or do you live in the countryside?

    Seriously?

WHY does it !!!!ING MATTER WHY they drive it.

If they want to, whats it to you?

Whats next, putting estate cars off the road because people dont always carry stuff in the back? Putting sports cars off the road because people shouldnt be driving fast???

    Catch yourself on!

Actually i live out in the country in the middle of nowhere. The closest village is a collection of approx 15 houses and a small part time post office.

Its not about driving fast, its about driving safe. The vast majority of problems caused by snow are because people are clueless as to how to drive in those conditions.

You're missing my point - again - people dont buy X5s because of their off road capability, they drive them because they're luxury cars and they want to.
