I had a Defender 110 turbo when I worked in Uganda and it was a joy.lostinrates wrote: »The defender was the only thing capable of getting us out of our old rural hilly village in the heavy snow four or five years ago.. Heavy four by fours and tractors . The lighter four by fours were coming off the road all over the place. I know because I spent the few weeks towing them off!
In recent winters a couple of us have had to rely on a neighbour's 4x4 to tow us up the unadopted lane but coming back down the lane it seemed a little precarious.0 -
Thanks for the clarification, is that statement online anywhere?
It makes no difference for me as I'm usually at the 3T+ end of things, but might be handy to know for the future.
All I got from IWT was :[FONT="]VOSA (the Chief Enforcement Policy Manager, Gordon McDonald) stated in March 2011 that if you have a B+E license it is the physical weight that is taken into account and not the plated weight (basically as long as you are not towing over the maximum towing capacity of your vehicle you are legal) but for drivers without this type of license it is the plated weight that is taken into consideration when enforcing the law.
Which brings it in line with the pre-97 system and the 2011/12 system (it's the total actual weight, but restricted to 3.5T; there's no more 3.5T + 750kg allowance)

Perfect, that lead me to a copy of a VOSA memo, re-published by IWT. I might put a copy in each of the Land Rovers against any future 'discussions' at the roadside. It's never been an issue for me, but it has for others I know.0
