Is there any adults that are that bothered by Christmas? Sure, its fun, few beers and some good food, but surely its all about the kids and family?

What a stupid article, looks like someone feels like they're missing out on something

I am! Child free by choice, but I adore christmas! I've even managed to turn dh around to my way of thinking.

I don't think it's ruined by kids, however I do think that parents are under far too much pressure to make christmas 'magical' for children....pantomimes, extortionate Santa's grottos, the apparently compulsory trip to see the coca cola truck, elf on a shelf, Christmas Eve hampers etc.....all can be an expensive do before a single prezzie under the tree is bought.

That article is the kind of tripe the Daily Hate would normally dish up. Yes kids have tantrums at Xmas, just as they do at any other time of the year. All the excitement and predictable lack of sleep will make them more prone to them. How you handle this as an adult determines for how long, you allow something more than manageable to affect you and other family members. There would be no treading on eggshells in my house. Stroppy child would be sent to their room and told not to surface again until they could be civil and good company. Something the children of my family are fully aware of and go out of their way to avoid. Children make Xmas special for me, they don't ruin it because they know their boundaries.
The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.

I buy into "magical christmas for the kids" every single year - and I don't do any of the "magical" things on your list.

I think I've taken my daughter to see a panto twice, didn't do Santas grotto because Santa always came to nursery etc, she's never seen the Coke truck in real life (I'd be way more excited about that than she ever would :D) I don't know what elf on a shelf is, and we've never done Christmas eve hampers or separate christmas stockings.

I personally think, for me, Christmas is more magical with kids in the mix (even if they do turn into vile little monsters occasionally due to being over-excited and over-tired around Christmas). We've only ever had one melt-down among family which involved my daughter, so we just all retired to our corners for a time-out :rotfl:, then got back into the festivities.
  • Had to do a double-check then to see if it was a dailyhatemail article. What a lot of twaddle. He sounds like he was a petulant brat as a child and thankfully won't be passing on such traits to his offspring, because he wont be having any.

My now, young adult children have never thrown a tantrum because they didn't get what they wanted. They have never known great luxury, but have always been aware that they could have their christmas gift wishes granted if it was within my means to provide it.

I don't recognise anyone, any family, in past or present times, as are described in this article. Thankfully.

Brats like the one in the article ruin everyone's day whatever the time of the year!

Of course it's really the fault of those who raise them to realise that acting like a toad gets all their I-Wants delivered.

Pastures New's "friend" probably began life as one of these little princes.
Public appearances now involve clothing. Sorry, it's part of my bail conditions.

In my child free house hold adults are very bothered about Christmas!
This is one of only three Christmases DH and I will have spent alone, and its a joyous thing.

We love children, and spending time with them IS super, but absolutely we enjoy Christmas with out them and without family too.

Goodness, you'd think anyone child free and with no family would have to curl up and cry at this time of year other wise.

This is going to be my first childfree Christmas, having suffered for years with horrible nieces and nephews. I'm going to really enjoy it :)

To be honest I can't stand badly behaved brats any time of year. Has to be the parent's fault though.

I think you need to realise that the article is slightly tongue-in-cheek. ;)

When we had children placed with us for adoption, everybody told us how wonderful our first Christmas with them would be. I have to say that it was the worst Christmas I've ever spent and they never got that much better.

Give me a child free Christmas any time!
