I've found eBay invaluable for the cruise dresses. I keep an eye out during the sales, but eBay is my main source of 'frocks'. I tend to keep to brands that I'm familiar with, and all but one purchase has been successful. It was an M&S dress, looked fine in the pictures, but when it arrived it was more like an under-dress than a dress. I just binned it, I wouldn't have been happy to sell it on.

Sorry to hear you are feeling a bit low. It must be difficult when your partner isn't as committed to MFW as you are. As I said on another diary recently, your OH will thank you for your efforts one day, when the mortgage is paid off years early, but it's not much consolation in the here and now.

Thanks Goldie :) - that was the thing with dress - i had seen it in the shop but it really doesn't look the same now its here :( - i am still looking at dresses from the same label as they usually fit me ok and are good quality. It had only occured to me this week that my usual outfit of leggings t-shirt / jumper and baseball boots will not cut it the rest of the nights :o I think i was alarmed when i showed my Mr the dress and i said 'it'll do and thats me sorted' and he mentioned that we're on the boat for more that 1 night :o:o - i do of course have a couple of other dresses - literally 2 so i have been on the look out for some bargains - i do have 2 weddings and a race day to go to so the dresses should come in for these too :) I am not buying any long dresses like everyone wore on the last cruise - for me its a waste of money as i won't be comfy and i would need to get everything adjusted to suit my wee height so too much money.

I am sorry if i came across as feeling low - i am much more low about work and i guess that if my Mr was on board on the mortgage stuff then the work stuff would fall into place. Still i will carry on trying because i agree my efforts will see the mortgage paid off years early - i have already managed to reduce the term by 3 years so i know it is possible :)

Yes, ha ha, no-one in this house likes red wine for some reason.White, Rose, Prosecco, Champagne, Cider, Beer - all yes. Red wine, nope, it's only ever used in cooking or if we have a visitor that likes red. :D

And have you clocked the time on this post. I am just home after a long day in the great Metropolis, I have work tomorrow and should be going to sleep but my mind is still too busy from the day's events. Overall, when all's said and done, it's been one seriously cr*p day and I'm glad it's over and I'm tucked up in bed.

P&F i definitely did clock the time  are you ok? Feel free to pm me xx

Hope you had a good night's sleep and fingers crossed that's the week's worth of carp out of the way. OH's can be so frustrating. Mine says he's on board but then periodically throws a curve ball.

That must be really frustrating for you INOD - i guess that doesn't happen with us as i am MFW and my mr isn't - not that he doesn't want the mortgage to be paid off, but because he doesn't believe its possible so won't try :(

Sleep last night was rubbish - my mr had a bad night and i'm a light sleeper so as he was unsettled so was i. I was then up at 5.15am, went back to bed for an hour and am exhausted now but have had brekkie and a cuppa :) How are things with you?

Sounds like lots of good plans :)

Your work colleague is so rude! I wouldn't at all make assumptions about other people's financial situations. I agree that she's probably jealous as you'll be MF long before her.

Sorry to hear your OH is not on board. Mine doesn't get it either. Maybe once you've made some progress and he can see real results he may be more keen? You've proved you can get debt free without his help, so just plod on and then eventually he'll soon see your way works :)

Hey jwil - colleague has no idea about my overpayments.

I am not so sure about sharing progress with my Mr though... :o as i said i didn't mention extra payments to him and probably haven't for a couple of years now. He knows we chip away at it as he gives me a nominal amount extra for this - which he does remember that he does pay a wee bit extra as the sweetheart mentioned it to some friends, bless him x BUT he has no idea of the actual amounts i pay or the stoozing etc. and as its all paid from my money he would have no reason to know. The small extra amount i think he finally agreed to pay to keep the peace :o - this monthly extra is less than we spend on alcohol in a week, or betting, or food, or going out... He could also be very upset with the extra i pay as he would see that we could use that money now for other things, whereas i am trying to give us a future where we aren't still paying a mortgage into retirement (would have been without extra payments). In some ways i hope this is why we work well together - that he ensures we have fun now and hopefully what i'm doing will ensure a secure future where we can still have fun.

    Sorry for the essay :o

I'd ignore work colleague. but then I dont have any work colleagues so don't take my advice :rotfl:

Mr Watty was on board to start with and very enthusiastic. He was totally up for using (my) savings and the endowment and selling shares to reduce mortgage but doesnt see that any further headway can be made. I keep going. I know it can be done :) . OK not by january 2014 which is what I'd once hoped but it can be done.....and it will be done.

    Enjoy studying :)
Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!

I have been meaning to ask if anyone could help me with a plan please :o For paying off my mortgage :) I work better with a definite plan and target to aim towards so would appreciate any advice / help suggestions on how to work this out :D

At the moment i am just paying extra and hoping for the best so something more definite would be great but i really am not sure how to go about this :o

Well, what do you want to achieve and by when? You need to establish your end game and work backwards. So, if you want it paid off by xxxx, how much would you have to pay per month? How much is normal monthly payment? How much does that leave? How much are regular OP's? How much does that leave? What ad hoc stuff are you expecting? How much does that leave? Divide that by the number of months left. NOW you can plan some targets :D
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort
    :) Mortgage Balance = £0 :)
