Friends can be so disappointing.
Over the years we have been friendly with people, but gradually you start to notice they take from you without giving, or prove unreliable.
It's such a shame when this happens...but in the end I think you have to take a step back, in order to protect yourself.
These days we don't have as many friends, but the ones that we do have I love dearly and trust with my life. For me it's better that way, it avoids upset and disappointmentEarly retired - 18th December 2014

Ooh, just saw your last post about the family necklace.
I had a few pieces of jewellery from my mum. I kept the ones which meant most to me, that is the things I remember her wearing. But the other things dated from before my time, so in the end I did sell them. I felt happy to do this, as I wanted someone else to enjoy them and use them, rather than having them stuck in a drawer for the next 50 years!Early retired - 18th December 2014

Thanks Goldiegirl but i think i'll just need to look into selling it for the small weight hence about £10. I have kept the other items though and will wear and use. £10 off the mortgage though can only be a good thing and they would want me to have a much lower mortgage balance than what i've got nowBest look into how to go about selling it then

Re: the friends thing - sometimes we have to let them go as well as 'stuff'. You can either challenge them over what they've done (and risk possibly upsetting them and/or losing them and it ending on a sour note) or move forward from it, accepting that's how they are but - if you can't change them - you can change how you react to them - like saying 'no', as you mentioned. You may lose a friend this way, but if that's the case then they possibly weren't having. Friends are there for give and take, it's not a one-sided relationship all the time xx
Fab ebaying, btw!:T
Re the gold - I'd sell it - it's sentiment for sentiment's sake if you have other pieces from the person that you like and wear. And sentiment for sentiment's sake means it's (in all honesty) clutter. Money on the mortgage (or even a nice piece of fun jewellery that you like instead) is a better use xI am the master of my fate; I am the captain of my soulRepaid mtge early (orig 11/25) 01/09 £124616 01/11 £89873 01/13 £52546 01/15 £12133 07/15 £NILNet sales 2024: £200 -

Thanks for the advice greentYes i had decided not to challenge them already as i do not think it would achieve anything. The thing i didn't like was that i am changing because of it - saying 'no' and perhaps being less open and welcoming to them but i do *have* to guard against being taken advantage of so i really shouldn't feel too bad about it
Thank you also for the gold advice - will need to see where to send it off to now as its a mixture of gold and the jewellers i went to only offered price based on the weight of the cheapest gold in it..CC1:T £[STRIKE]2531[/STRIKE] £1460MORTGAGE OVERPAYMENTS: £10575.20 Target £12,100MF Date: [STRIKE]August 2042[/STRIKE] May 2035Declutter 1000 things by Xmas 2015! 53/10000 -

Annoyingly got all set to sell my gold and then got message saying i'd been misadvised on the material - its all gold and in different colours - got told some was platinum so i don't know if i need to put in a new enquiry or not and this will necessitate an extra trip to the post office at the end of the week Humph!CC1:T £[STRIKE]2531[/STRIKE] £1460MORTGAGE OVERPAYMENTS: £10575.20 Target £12,100MF Date: [STRIKE]August 2042[/STRIKE] May 2035Declutter 1000 things by Xmas 2015! 53/10000 -
Awesome decluttering.
Every pound you spend is a pound further from MFW I guess.
They have to be enjoyable and or vital pounds.0
