Hi Cheery,
Just in reply to your question and as INOD has said bedding towels etc. to animal shelters.
With the books would any old folks homes take them? I went to a community college and they had a book case where they were selling the books on there - so maybe some different places to donate them too? That is if you don't want to sell them to the places where they take box fulls - i think some places also buy books like the weigh in clothes places tooCC1:T £[STRIKE]2531[/STRIKE] £1460MORTGAGE OVERPAYMENTS: £10575.20 Target £12,100MF Date: [STRIKE]August 2042[/STRIKE] May 2035Declutter 1000 things by Xmas 2015! 53/10000 -
Hello All,
Thank you for all the repliesMy Mr isn't too much of a hoarder really i suppose but he can be untidy which is hard when you live in a wee little house like we do as 1 or 2 bits out of place really do stand out.
I was annoyed more with his comment about thinking theres more stuff to declutter as i am so proud of all i've done that has made the 3 rooms i've tackled so far so much better to live in and there is nothing else to declutter save a few extra roasting dishes
This weekend i will probably finish decluttering the spare room - i have 3 drawers and a desk top to do as well as a window ledge - the rest of the stuff is my Mr's  I will ask if there's any means of it being made any tidier... This is where having the loft done would come in handy too - part of the reason i am saving up for it
What i am sortof bemused about with the decluttering is that the last room i'll declutter, more than likely, is the lounge - the room everyone comes into and which we are in more than any other place and which is very untidy. I am not even going to use an embarrassed smilie on thatMy logic is simple. As i declutter other rooms the stuff gets put in the living room before being sent off to various destinations - carboot storage, bay of e, charity etc. so if this room was done it would be constantly getting stuff put in it then have the chance to be a bit out of control again  Plus, more than any other room this is all shared items so in the bedroom we have our own bedside cabinets etc. here no surface is individual and there is stuff of mine and my Mr's. Including all my uni stuff. So i'll get round to this last and tackle my stuff and no doubt need to assist my Mr sorting his out - but if the items need to be relocated to other rooms they'll have already been decluttered and it will be easier to put things away in them
Meanwhile it is pretty chaotic when people come to visit

It also means that even if you feel like giving up its a lot harder than it would be if all the stuff was stashed away in a garageMortgage at 01.01.14 £119,481.83:eek: today £0 Emergency fund £5.5/5.5k & £200/200 cash.:jWeight 24/02/19 14st 7lb now 11st 12lb determined to stop defining myself by my mistakes. Oooh, I don't think I could cope with that. Our sitting-room is pretty uncluttered - it could do with being redecorated and we defo need a new sofa but overall it's a pleasant room with virtually no 'stuff' in it at all. It is VERY visible though, even if people don't come into the house they can see the sitting-room very clearly. And it's good to have an uncluttered room to lounge about in of an evening.
But of course, like you, stuff 'in transit' has to go somewhere - in our house it's the dining-room or garage.0 -
Absolutely, stuff in transit has to go somewhere - you're on the case constantly, thats what matters - and really, your way of decluttering your house is *your* way - any way it happens, its good!2023: the year I get to buy a car0

Thanks guys
INOD & KC - i agree that seeing what needs doing is an encouragement to get it done
p&f - yes thats why i was bemused as i know most people would need to have the main room done. Its a bit like how we set up decorating here - before redundancies, short-time etc. stopped the work, the living room was the last room we agreed to do
But you'll be pleased to hear that me and Mr sorted out 1 joint item in the living room yesterday which now looks tons better :T and produced several items for the bay of e and carboot
Due to this though today i *need* to tackle the spare room as i didn't do any of it yesterday
Money News: - this week i was really pleased with the my shopping bill - it came in at £5.56 over target :T I shop thursdays so 1 thursday to the next is the total shopping bill but i won't be going to any more food shops until this thursdayThe reason it was over was because of reduced price steak, venison, offer on bread flour, 2 x meals for me - 1 for thursday as it was late and i was tired  Still it is very close to target and i am happy with that
I've listed 11 items for sale so i've to list 20 more to hit target for this month - which means i need to find quite a few more items to list too
Tomorrow i may buy a present for a birthday coming up - if not it will be an NSD but i need to buy it at some point
Today needs to be an assignment / spare room / workbag ready / nice tea and film later daySo lots to achieve there.
I've also decided on the freezer drawer to work on this month so will need to peep into that later and plan next weekends /weeks meals and therefore the shopping list
Hope everyone is wellCC1:T £[STRIKE]2531[/STRIKE] £1460MORTGAGE OVERPAYMENTS: £10575.20 Target £12,100MF Date: [STRIKE]August 2042[/STRIKE] May 2035Declutter 1000 things by Xmas 2015! 53/10000 -

Hi DDFW I 'lurk' on this thread and find I very inspirational for decluttering. HTH

Elli, how interesting! I'm too much used to my User CP button - I just don't look at new threads enough, that looks fascinating. Although I don't hoard any more, I'm aware of that tendency, and I watch the TV programmes with fascination ... thanks!2023: the year I get to buy a car0
