  • Hello All,

I am glad i started the new thread as it has made me think about the money saving stuff again and feel a bit clearer and focused about it again :T

Today i took packed lunch to work - i do this all the time but it *is* money saving :D

In my lunch i darted about the shops - i returned the things i splurged on last week :naughty: - i fessed up on the old diary and thought i'd keep 1 dress - which i mentioned on here - but none were right - i am getting much better at only buying what i love :T Although i saw a jacket i love today but didn't need it so didn't buy it :T

    - so i saved money returning the dress and other bits :T

    - i went to 2 food shops and gosh those bags were heavy! to take advantage of savings at the different places - although i've been roped into taking family to them as well tomorrow night - at least we can all save as much as we can which is good :D Also meant i got some bits needed for tonight which would have been dearer at the local shop

    - walked to the station saving on fuel :T

    - most of tea from stores and bought what was needed (and only what was needed) at the best price ;)

Not money saving but helping with tidyness / appearance - threw away shoes which have holes in after arriving home with soggy feet :( got a hole in my leggings today - not the sort of material which can be repaired and in an obvious place too so they went in the bin as well. No need to replace either though as i'll just substitute with other items i already have in :D so i guess that is kinda moneysaving :rotfl::rotfl:

Decided on a turkey joint £5 instead of a crown / turkey which would cost more - it will be delicious - i've had one before :) On the shopping list for tomorrow - list all written, house all clean, wrapping all done, washing all done :T

Hope everyone is set for chrimble - not looking forward to work and shopping tomorrow but it will all somehow get done :)

I also got on with some studying :T

  • Morning All :D

I hope everyone had a lovely Christmas ? :D After getting over being ill in the morning i had a lovely day visiting family and messaging friends - i probably ate too much and drank too much :o

So i'm up early moving the money around - some that i didn't get round to doing xmas eve and the rest from my xmas money :)

I got £100 cash in total and unfortunately paying the mortgage / bills isn't seen as something proper to do with this so i have been a little sneaky. i have spent half the money £50 on 3 new items i really liked and wanted - a skirt, jumper and top :D all were in the sale at half price or less :T I got the money from my family and my Mr's so the sneaky bit is i am going to say to both what i got with the money :o as they never really meet up its not something they'd know about and they'll be happy that i bought something for me that i really wanted and the other £50 i've paid £25 to the mortgage and £12.50 to each of the savings pots. Oh dear i feel a little guilty 'fessing up :o but much better i am sure than spending for the sake of spending :o

I am really pleased that i am over 10% towards the loft access savings :T and nearly at 10% savings for the gutters :j And that i've made a start on the mortgage overpayments :T

Jotted down a couple of ingredients to pick up from the shop for cooking today and at the weekend - this is because they didn't have the items at 3 supermarkets on xmas eve

  • Whoops! submitted post before i finished :p

I am also pleased to have got my savings to £800 - i'll need to consider what target to set to achieve on this this year - i'm thinking £3700 but if target is £12,000 then i should aim to be a third of the way there so £4000 target...

£1200 from regular payments + £800 already have leaves me £2000 to find.

What i might do for this is reserve 2 separate months this year - so say june and september to just go all out to raise an extra £1000 in these months - from MS, cutbacks etc. and for just these months the money all goes into savings...

The other option is a return to MS and just get on with it

  • Had the realisation yesterday that next year i have 4 very close family members with significant birthdays - a 60th, 50th and 2 x 40th all this coming year  Thinking cap muchly needed for this

I also wanted to say that i am still getting used to have a little spending budget just for me. I have £20 a week. I keep thinking oh i'll pay anything i don't spend into savings / mortgage but i'm not doing that the spending money is there for me to spend and keep to a budget and if its not spent to save it towards the more expensive months when its needed - i am still trying to get used to this.

Lots to do before back to work tomorrow :( So i'd better get a wriggle on - hope everyone is well x

So, if they had given you the money before Xmas and told you to buy yourself something for Xmas you could have bought exactly the same for twice the price :). Just applaud yourself for being a good money saver, and hope they never meet :rotfl:
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

:hello: DFW, why don't you join my 'Save 12k in 2014' thread on the savings board? You can set your target amount for the year and it's a bit motivator, seeing everyone else saving as well!
    Just a thought ;)
