Speeding? Manned equipment.
Newbie potential criminal here.
Thirty years of driving, no speeding tickets......until now. Not even sure I was speeding.....driven that road hundreds or thousands of times.
NIP says manned equipment......neither me nor my wife saw it. Is hiding behind a bush OK?
Also, I don't think there are speed camera signs there. Is that OK?
They say they have photographic or video evidence......will they send this to me? Is it possible they got the person in front of or behind me?

first things:
Alleged date of offence and date of postmark of postage must be no more than 13 days which allows 1 for service.(14)

Ask for any photographic evidence to help you determine who was driving.
A manned camera can be in the back of a van, they're not always that obvious.0 -
It was most likely a van at the side of the road, that you missed as you went past in a blur of speed.

There's no requirement for camera signs, and they can hide behind a bush if they want to, or even sit in a horse box. If the police are sitting in a car-crime hotspot looking out for thieves they don't have to put up big signs announcing their presence - it's no different with speeding.
You can ask to see the photos, and many forces will provide them, but they're not obliged to do so at this stage. The only way to force them to disclose the evidence would be to have the matter dealt with in court - which would mean turning down the offer of a speed awareness course or a fixed penalty, and risking a harsher penalty if you were convicted.0 -
What speed do they allege?
If only a tad over the limit they may well offer a Driver Awareness Course if this was in England, Wales or Norn Iron.0 -
Wont be anything yet, just a NIP to name the driver, thats why we look at service dates, if its out of date as many often are, it can be kicked out of the ring straight away.Be happy...;)0

The local force around here has taken to vans with amber lights, rather than blue, with the yellow and red chevrons on the back. It's clearly an attempt to diguise them as maintainance vans - it's only until you're alongside that you see 'Police' on the van.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. My God - that was quick - Pics on Tuesday and you've got the NIP on Friday.
As for 37mph - that's well within the threshold for an awareness course.
The rules say 10% + 9 so that would be up to 42mph in a 30 limit, which is what it seems you were in.0
