    "Type"? Really?

I shop in Aldi, Tesco, Waitrose, Sainsbury. What "type" does that make me? A canny shopper or a split personality?

Abel & Cole, ASDA, Home Bargains, Iceland, Lidl, Marks and Spencer, Morrisons, Ocado, Riverford, Sainsbury's, Tesco (but NOT food), Waitrose here.

No M&S in my town and the one I use near my mother is always heaving year-round, it's a scrum to even get to the food and contrary to stereotype this M&S isn't all posh shoppers by any means.

Worst YS scrums I see are in my local town centre ASDA. The Sainsbury's around the corner doesn't have them, whereas the edge of town store is as bad as ASDA.

Tesco tends to attract a certain demographic, obviously not everyone who goes there falls within this category, your Ladyship being an obvious and honourable exception. I doubt most Tesco clientele go on to shop at Waitrose!

    Waitrose price match with tesco;)

I'm confident we will never see this at Aldi mainly because their standard prices are better than Tescos discounted offerings!

are you really saying you can buy fresh bread/fruit/vegetables/meat in Aldi for the 10/20/30p we are talking about here ?

If you see posts from others you'll observe that savings generally aren't that great, I suggest the prices that you mention are the exception rather than the rule which you've introduced for effect and are therefore readily dismissed.

In fact the reduced item shown in the article has a value of £4.20, case proven I think M'lud or Quod Erat Demonstrandum if you prefer!

What a load of twaddle! I have never seen bread at 20p, veg at 10p and 20p, yogurt at 15p, fruit at 10p, at Aldi. I regularly get 90% off when I go shopping at Tesco. Those that complain the reductions are not worth having are those who go too early.

I think the point is that generally speaking Aldi's standard prices are still more attractive than the vast number of discounted 'yellow sticker' items offered by Tesco!

Aldi prices are clearly cheaper on the whole and may be cheaper even after Tesco do their first reduction(usually around 25% but sometimes only 10%). However when I shop now at Tesco, unless it's an item that is rarely reduced, then I will want a minimum of 75% reduction and usually look for 90%. this involves timing and a lot of waiting etc.

So prices of 10p, 20p or 30p may be more common than you think, particularly if you live in an affluent area. By the way I also get big discounts at Waitrose and scrumaging does not occur there.

Actually I would lay a lot of the blame for this on the supermarket policy of reductions.

The other day I was in my local Tesco and their reduced section was jammed full of salmon, ready meals, cheeses and other refrigerated produce. It was 1pm and they were reduced by less than 10% (not worth buying really).

Doing late massive reductions only encourages thetype of behaviour described above and what I have witnessed locally and increasingly in the early evening. If the produce were better marked down earlier in the day and left at its original selling point (which is what Waitrose does) then others could get a bargain without the need for a scrum at 8pm. We all love a bargain but it can be better managed in light of the amount of waste we have recently been told the supermarkets are trying to cut.

    Exactly well said.
