  • Good news on paying the mortgage, that's the most important bill so I think you were right to pay now. A bit sticky with the credit cards, are they due by the end of the month or slightly into next month?

I hope the cleaning job gets sorted and brings in a few pounds to manage the shortfall, will your savings always be so high or do you have a goal amount then can focus again?

You're doing so well so don't be disheartened.

Well done paying the mortgage, you are doing well, hang on in there.

If you are still able to make the iron cover, I too can push the money over to you:D

A family member with 3 children, also living very rurally, with little opportunity for part time work to fit in with childcare also cleans and shops, she is a lovely caring person and is in great demand, as I think that you would be, I hope that something comes of it for you.

    Hi Chrysalis,

    Thanks for posting.
The credit cards are overdue from this month :o. I got myself all mixed up with the five week months we have been having and I think I should have started the May month on the 27th April not the 2nd May like I did, so now it has pushed me too late into the month of May. Doubt this makes any sense.
I will get everything paid, just a little late :o

Yes fingers crossed with some little jobs.

    Hi Ciaerda
    Thanks for posting x
Yes fingers crossed with the cars. Hubby van goes in next Thursday. His is the MOST important vehicle as its what bring in the household money. We don't think its going to be too bad, maybe £200 ish. MOT and a couple of tyres fingers crossed.

    Hi Mummytogirls x
NOPE :(. Not a hope yet. And I called them up the other day to ask if they had a better deal on offer as my mortgage has now gone up £80 per month , and unsurprisingly there were no offers available. Most definitely because I am not paying on time. Grrrrrrrrr.
When you are poor you just get poorer and poorer. Gives me EVEN more incentive to get out of this.

I have decided that when we are past the MOT's, I am going to keep saving the Emergency and Vehicles fund, but as soon as it reaches £800 I will pay the mortgage up to date to get that back on track.

At least I have a plan I suppose. Just need to get past the dreaded MOT's

    Morning all

Thanks so much for your encouraging words yesterday.

Can't wait to get the MOT's dealt with, they are such a millstone round my neck. I have managed to scraped together £500 over the last five months to put towards them. We are hoping that hubbys van is only a couple of tyres so maybe £200. That will then leave £300 for the car. Going to be a miracle if we have enough money.

Although I have made a mental decision to just do without the car if we run out of money. Hubby can change brakes and we will shop around for tyres. But if we haven't got the money then we will have to wait. Kids school is only 2 miles away so will walk them there if needs be.

I also think like I said in a previous post that after we have dealt with MOT's I am going to channel the Emergency fund into saving the £800 towards catching up with the mortgage. Think its my only way. Will be fantastic when I have done that, because I will get the Santander cashback on it and after a few months they may even be able to get us on a better deal.

As soon as I have caught up then I will start saving my emergency fund again.

I feel better having a plan, but really need to bump up our household money as much as possible.

Wish I could find something to make that was really popular and sold well. haha (like the rest of the world).

Oh well Sunday morning rant over with. Hope you are having a lovely weekend xxx

Hi Steph, just wanted to post for a bit of cheerleading for you. You've been doing so well and made huge inroads in to the debt already, so don't forget that. I'd be astonished if you could find a single diary on here that went in a linear fashion. It's how you deal with it that makes the difference, and you've got that part right - make a plan!

I really love your stuff and I've said it before, I think it's underpriced. You are unlikely to be making profit if you take your time into account; but that maybe doesn't matter *if* that time couldn't be spent more lucratively elsewhere; and if you love doing it enough to be a "hobby" as well. But if there is an opportunity to earn cold hard cash then that's probably a quicker way to the debt repayment, even if it's perhaps not as much fun ;)

But it's all a balance and life's too short as it is, so it's a question of what makes you happier in the long run. Could you try to get some cleaning hours etc until a certain point, such as the point your mortgage is back on the DD? Has the eb*y sales reached it's natural end, that was going well for you. Do you sell your products on eb*y as well?

Anyway that's my garbled brain dump on a Sunday morning! Keep at it, you are certainly my inspiration at least :A

Keep going you will get there. As one debt falls off the snowball gets bigger. Good plan to get the mortgage upto date.

One thing that went through my mind, you say the kids school is 2 miles away and you would have to walk (far distance when you have to do the return, so 8 miles a day!) have a look at your local council as I am sure that primary school age kids can get a bus if it's 2 miles or over to their catchment school. Just a thought.

  • Do you all have bikes? Perhaps they could bike in the morning rather than walk. 2 miles wouldn't take you very long to do and you won't be wasting your morning biking back on your own?

I've recently said no to a cleaning job but purely because of where it was, who works there and all the b1tchiness that comes with it. I am however now thinking perhaps I might look around for some private cleaning jobs instead just to get us back on track with savings (if you haven't read my diary, I have just cleared 2 and a half pots out to buy a new car :o )

Do you have chickens where you are? I know of lots of people locally who sell their eggs at a premium and they always sell well as they taste so much better than shop bought! As for projects to make and sell, there is a lady who makes beautiful art / picture type things (??? not sure how to describe it lol) out of pallets, she sands them down, [STRIKE]cuts the pallets up and makes them[/STRIKE] <
Scrap that explanation I will just try and post a link! :rotfl:

The lady who i've seen sell these does so through her FB selling page (as you already have) and she is always inundated with orders. I will see if I can find her for you, she also makes similar things to yourself (but I honestly think yours are nicer!) Just an idea if you can find some pallets as these look very quick and easy to make but something that most people would rather pay for than do themselves! xx
