    I think you mean "wouldn't":)

I've done the boost increase on old Disco with a 200 TDI and it did make a difference, much more responsive and more torque, but fuel consumption dropped by about 5mpg.

But I'm in the market for a Disco 3 at the moment, so towing woes should be a thing of the past soon :D

Cambelt is a fortune on those

Some remove the body to do it!

    Handy hint.

The front cambelt is actually a cambelt, the one at the rear only deals with the diesel pump and if it snaps it is no big problem.

Personally I think the D3 is slagged off too much. They are likely cheaper to run than similar vintage X5 or ML.

My Pathfinder has been reliable, two interior door handles and some brake pads.

Have changed the oil at 5k though. Don't trust this 18k OCI that Nissan specify.

Diahatsu Fourtrak - get them for a few hundred quid and will tow a lot!
Would you say that to a stranger's face in the street? No? Then why type it on a forum?

Never seen a cheap Fourtrak for that reason. Solid and dependable.

Most that i have seen have been used on greenlanes or off road sites so i would be cautious when buying.
  • If you do go looking at Disco II's, have a good look at the chassis, normally around the fuel tank is favourite place for rust. Some of them were made from really bad metal and just haven't lasted. Also pull the plug off the ECU and look for oil in the loom, another common fault.

If I were you I'd be looking at a Range Rover P38 (1995-2002) diesel manual or a petrol one with LPG. Lots of electrical things to look out for, but they don't rust like the discoverys do.

I got one about a year and a half ago for £600, no modifications, just a few electrical niggles, nothing majorly wrong with it. I loved it! It was the most fun motoring I've had in years!
I still see if out and about on the roads around where I live.
