Is there such a thing as a television with a built in Freeview recorder?

If there is which models should I be looking at?

There are some which you can plug an external hard disk into and record onto that. They are more expensive models though.

    Buy a "Humax Box"
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

    As above.
TV manufacturers have little interest in supporting their products beyond the model year.
Much better to have a PVR from a respected manufacturer who will keep the software up to date with developments.
In other words buy a Humax.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

Why would you want one? Very difficult to fit two hard drives into a modern slimline TV chassis.
As above, Humax is the way to go.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Such a thing does exist, well, they'll let you add USB memory, but it's not worth the hassle. A seperate set top box (a Freeview+HD recorder, or a Youview box) might sound like more hassle, but is, in fact, less!

I don't actually. The question was asked in relation to a friend of my Mum (in her 80s) who had been advised to buy a TV with built in recorder. Apparently has purchased a 46" Samsung TV from Tesco, which if it's the one I think it is, is in the region of £850! Seems to be a smart TV but as far as I'm aware she doesn't have BB.

From what I can gather she would then need to use a USB drive of some sort?

That's what I said, especially as I believe her current TV is ok. My aunt has this after my recommendation and thinks it's marvellous and easy to work. She's 78.

Not much point paying extra for SMART features if there is no broadband to feed them!
Still, a 46" TV is probably a vast improvement over the last TV she had and SMART is gradually becoming standard anyway.

Take that Smart TV back (she was kindof mis-sold it if she doesn't have internet!), buy a dumber 46/47 inch TV and buy a YouView box with the change.

Shirley if you don't have an inter-web YouView is kind of pointless.

.......and they only have a single tuner, so you cannot record one channel and watch another. Only really useful if you have a Humax or a Sky + box as well.
