Journey delayed. Have a question. As I havent registered on the vodafone website, if and when I come to the end of my data allowance on the mifi, am I right in thinking it will just cease working, rather than just continue incurring a charge.
PS, overnight I thought "what a stupid question". Of course it will end. However much data is provided, when it's gone it's gone and if my usage hasn't been used up when the month is up, I loose it as it doesn't roll over.
To find out or monitor your usage, you have to register with Vodafone giving them endless details, that way they give you the opportunity to see how much you've used. I suppose that's OK for some, but dodn't think I will bother.
Even now, I am more and more of the opinion that your link to
http://www.ovivomobile.com/offer/ovivo-for-data/ is the answer, in fact it's seems too good to be true. The initial £20 spend, covers admin/sim card and about £15's worth of data which they say is 1000mb (all I have to do now is google "what is 1000mb worth?" ), and then, each month they give you 1000mb with no more costs involved.
Question. Are you with them ? and if so, how long ?
On my return home, no doubt the mifi I have, and amazon gives more detail :-

no doubt would be locked to vodafone, so it would need to be unlocked before I could use your OVIVO ?This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
I've been using the Ovivo data sim since August and my partner has had one for her phone for a similar time.
I can't see why it shouldn't work on a mifi locked to Vodaphone as they are the same network but the Huawei model I purchased from Tesco was locked to T-Mobile and I got an unlock code off eBay for 99p which worked perfectly.
You can logon to your Ovivo account and see how much you have used at any time. For phone users, aside from showing what remains of your allowance, they list details of each individual call and the cost should it relate to a picture message or anything else chargeable. I've never checked my data account because I would never get anywhere near using the allowance on my tablet.
Here's a link to the Hot UK Deals site which will give you some idea of what other people think of Ovivo

The information required for registration is minimal. If you have any concerns then set up a separate 'junk' email account with Google or Yahoo etc which you can close at any time.
If you need to get it unlocked then the eBayer was smgreen1969. He has had plenty of positive reports and I got the code from him in less than 2 minutes after making the purchase. The process is very straightforward but don't bother if Ovivo works as it stands.0 -
How reassuring, thanks Neil. Hotukdeals is in my favourites so will go and have a read now. I've just set up a new email account with mail.com will come back to you later no doubt. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Ovivo WILL work on a MiFi locked to Vodafone but WILL need APN settings changed which you might find a bit of a challenge.
The time invested to do so is worth it as you can then use your "free" mobile Internet.
This might help

What a load of old rubbish the vodafone mifi turned out to be. I don't think I had an internet connection for more than 5 mins, then the ruddy battery died on me.
My thoughts turned to ovivo. But, I aim to visit orange/ee tomorrow to see if they will show me how to use my mobile data with it.
oh yes, something else. Each time I tried to open one of my saved websites, their respective logo's were replaced by that of vodafone. However using my daughters home wifi, they have come back. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
The mifi I bought, has not been a success. I took it away with me and tried to use it on the galaxy tab3.
The mifi was charged up. The tablet scanned and found it. They connected. Each time I clicked on one of my favourites/bookmarks, a vodafone page came up and that's all. Vodafone even took over the bookmarked pages's icon with it's own.
Setting aside a comment that macman made, the same results came before the journey started.
I'm beginning to wonder if I've set it up right and will go through the procedure again later today, just to see what happens. The thing is, one of the four icons on the mifi is an envelope, this suggests to me that via the laptop, I might be told of something I have yet to do.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. As I started this thread, I think I might be allowed to digress a bit.
Having seen people pair their tablets with their mobile phones, I'm now wondering if I should enter the smart phone brigade in the hope I can connect to the net that way. They tell me it's not automatic though. I'm told it depends on which tariff I'm on, even though I get a data allowance.
If this is so, if I ask in an orange (my supplier) shop for an entry level smart phone, I must emphasise that I want to connect my galaxy to it for surfing, is this so?. No doubt they will or should say, "not on your tariff" if that applies.
Any info would be appreciated. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
This whole thread has me baffled.
Firstly, why the OP bought the thing against all advice.
Why he paid £40 for it when it is £35 at Vodafone
Has he actually enabled the data package on the SIM?
If so, has he removed Vodafone's 'Content Control'?
He needs to get himself over to a Vodafone shop or to get on to their e-Forum0 -

He/I bought this model when it was £10 cheaper at Argos than Vodafone.
http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/1168044.htm
In all likelihood, he/I hasn't removed the "content control" as he/I doesn't know what that is, or how to do it.
He/I has asked in the Vodafone shop, but they are not interested because I made the purchase elsewhere. They said their's (at the time was £10 dearer), but paying that extra, would have given me the chance of help, as I didn't, "no can do".
He/I, will venture to the Vodofone Forum and ask there, hopefully someone might extend the hand of friendship at this time of the year and lead this less then techie guy the way.
Huh!. he/I has joined the vodafone forum but despite searching, cannot find the "NEW POST" section.
YES YES YES< I have it. I have discovered it's NOT ME. many others find that they too are high-jacked into the Vodafone page and despite attempts to find a solution through the Vodafone Forum AS RECOMMENDED, they still have no other solution other than to bin the Vodafone sim card and purchase elsewhere. So, Mr NiftyDigits, thanks for your guidance it got me no-where. Read this:-

I do think you'll get the help you need but it may take a few goes to find someone who you can connect with. I work in broadband support and I'm older than you are! I find I often get people in their forties and up who have spoken to advisers before and got nowhere whereas I'll take them through the same process with a bit more reassurance and get them to relax with a bit of chat and they manage to achieve what they need. Often their biggest problem is that because they are wary of the technology they often don't listen very well and instead of doing what they are asked to do veer off at a tangent and try something else and I have to drag them back on topic (it's a bit like working with teenagers which I've also done).
Just as different customers have different styles so do advisors ...in an ideal world all advisors would be able to deal with all types but in the real world sometimes you need to try again and find someone who understands your style of dealing with technology. Just try not to call up tonight if possible as most advisors will be frazzled from trying to help alcohol affected customers who can't even focus ....tomorrow morning would be so much better for you lolI Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
