Both vodaphone & argos sell an identical mifi. The latter place sells £10 cheaper so I purchased there. Do you think I have a hope in hell of getting Vodaphone to set this up for me?. It looks beyond my capabilities.
if anyone is looking for or has this model, it's the £40 one.

Have you read the reviews? Only 5 and 3 of then are 1 star and do not buy.
One says Voda will not offer assistance with this deal.
£5 for 250mb of data? Thats sounds like a total non bargain.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
what is it that has caused a problem, i have a Huawei E5756 So if there is anything i can help with (or try) then i will

Although a very different model to set mine up it was a case of adding the sim card, putting unit on charge, turning it on, waiting around 3/4 minutes then there is a little button (other than the power button) holding that in to make connection and entering the units code into, laptop, then same for tablet, then OH's phone and mine just so i didn't have to at a later date. I have had it around 4 months and have not had to repeat any of the steps since. (except charging it)

Forgotmyname. I bought this as something that wouldn't be used/needed very often. It isn't to replace anything, simply to use on infrequent longish rail journeys. Selecting PAYG means that it will only be topped up every 3 or 4 months, if that. Oh, and having seen someone using this model whilst away recently and he said it was perfectly OK.
I would put to you one thought. How many times have you read less than complimentary comments about talktalk. The nation seems unanimous in slagging them off. I've been with them ever since the "free broadband forever" publicity and you know what, never an issue.
amymackox, thnakyou. It's still early here and judging from the time you posted, you're asleep. Later this morning I will return to your post and maybe together we could try to work it out, thanks. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Get yourself an Ovivo data sim where you get 1000 m/b per month every month for a one-off fee of £20 (which includes £15 credit should you ever go over your monthly allowance). They use the Vodaphone network.

The only downside is the occasional advert which is how they can do it for free.0 -

Thanks Neil. Why is it that after the event, someone comes up with something that is a great deal better. Just clicked on your link and without taking it to the next stage, find it perfect. If I understand it correctly, one £20 investment will give me more than enough usage per month, the catch presumably to anyone weak enough, will be to become so absorbed they go over their limit and incur costs.
You/they say it's Vodaphone related, so I'm wondering that if they say "no" they wont help me (that's assuming I can't set it up myself), would I be able to make this sim purchase there? and if so, would that lead them into helping me?
We're going away tomorrow, so any delivery of sim card would have to wait till my return. I really need to get this thing running today. Please keep an eye on this thread, I may need you further.

All I can say is "keep your fingers crossed". I wrote down the route amymackox told me then proceeded. The thing is, instructions in tiny booklets seem so "wordy" and as they're printed in a tiny font, anyone such as me, needs a magnifying glass to follow them, hence her words when written condensed everything.
Currently the mifi is charging, having had the drivers installed on my laptop, it has been recognised on my galaxy and accepted via the password/numerals.
The display shows excellent signal (as I would expect) all the bars are live, the battery is flashing and will for the next 2/3 hrs. An envelope should arrive later, presumably with Christmas Greetings ?.
If you can stand the excitement, do come back. The question is, can my mid-70's ticker take it all ?. One MI is enough for anyone. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Somewhere on the Ovivo site there are setup quides for various mifi units. I've got a Huawei 5332 which isn't on their list but if you can get your unit up and running with the Vodaphone sim provided then switching to Ovivo should be fairly straightforward.
Here's a link to their support page for mifi/ dongles etc
http://support.ovivomobile.com/support/solutions/articles/163339
If you still can't get it to work their support team is excellent and will provide a step by step guide for you.
It can take a few days for their sim to arrive and, as I say, you get a few adverts to cover their costs, but otherwise it works well.
Vodaphone doesn't have the best of 3g data signals but it all depends on where you live. I use my mifi with a tablet when on holiday in Devon. Where we stay the data speed is pathetic even when it shows a good signal (it probably shows the 2G voice signal which is excellent) but when I go into the town centre there is no problem.0 -
Glad you came back and thanks. I am quite confident that I will follow your tip when we return. With this R206 charged and turned off, I was concerned the battery although charged and showing green, was flashing. I must have phoned umpteen vodafone numbers to confirm this was OK and in sleep mode and not using data. Eventually liaised with someone in the Indian Ocean who said it was fine. Actually whilst waiting for him to answer, I found the information myself, he just confirmed it.
So, on my return, I will waken you, maybe with a PM to make contact, so keep your eye open up there.
The thought that a one-off payment seems incredible. I'm thinking that if this mifi is locked to vodafone, will I have an issue swapping.
If all goes to plan, I'll be using this on the train tomorrow as we travel to RAF Marham and then on our return after either Christmas or New Year. Thanks for your help, and if we don't get to chat again before I go, "have a good 'un". I'm a "bah humbug" chap. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Sorry to disappoint you, but you'll find the signal drops every time you go through a tunnel or cutting. Lots of stretches of rural rail line don't even have decent 2G, let alone 3G.No free lunch, and no free laptop
