Parents - what do you miss most about being childless?

Unfortunately due to working as a nanny for a 5 year old a couple of years ago I know all about Biff, Chip & Kipper before I even got pregnant so I think I'll be serving extra time!
I'm 6 months pregnant but from seeing friends with kids I think it's the lie ins and laziness I'll miss.
And the loo thing. Had that problem working with kids & looking after my niece.
We plan to carry on going on holidays & taking the kids with us and my parents love baby sitting so I'm not too worried about missing out on occasional evenings out etc
That comment about the willy & beard really made me laugh!0 -
asked hubby and he said bumping uglies in the living room
personally its time to sit and do my make up without little fingers in it begging me to do her face as well, finding toilet paper everywhere, all my little treats that i buy myself getting eaten, lack of sleep, not being to have a shower or bath by yourself, not being able to go near the local shops without a look from the kids begging silently for things,
biff chip and kipper are also the bane of my life i just got the big one out of them he is now a free reader and the little one starts them in september its never ending i wont ever escape them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
also this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cNkp4QF3we8The only people I have to answer to are my beautiful babies aged 8 and 50 -
Our daughter is 14 years old so we've lived through the years of Biff, Chip, and Kipper, last minute requests to throw together a Roman centurion's outfit, etc etc
We're now into the realms of GCSE options, boys, how fit is Harry Styles, and inappropriate colouring of the eyebrows for school!
So what do we miss from our pre-child days? Absolutely blooming nothing.
It's been the best adventure of our lives and we've loved every minute thus far. Yes it's hard work and nipping out to buy a newspaper turns into something akin to planning an Everest expedition but we wouldn't swap it for anything!

Aww, my eldest started reception this term and he's learning to read with Biff, Chip and Kipper

For me, sleep is top of the list.
And not having to deal with curt demands for money from school and nursery that I have already paid *check your blimmin accounts before hassling me*
But would also agree with the bathroom privacy thing. If ever I have a bath when they are awake, I cannot do it in peace. They wander in and out, usually stripping off and trying to climb in with me, then complaining because I like the water hot. So I end up sat in a cold bath unable to move because there's 3 of us in it. Meh. :rotfl:
Would I send them back for a refund? Nah.Bossymoo

I miss the freedom to be utterly irresponsible. To go caving. To ride a motorbike. To adrenalin-trip.
As I'm mummy & breadwinner & them's both full time jobs.
While you can, Travel! Also, hire that luxury car & just squeeze behind the wheel whilst someone takes LOTS of photos...
Sort one week of things you aren't sure you'll get to do again (try on designer gowns, drive a car that does 150 mph (at whatever speed you choose), be photographed dancing a stunning tango - just so you have a startling "Life Before".
Keep the camera handy & shoot mercilessly over the years - Life After has it's own compensations!0 -
I miss not having something attached to me either in my arms, by wristband or just in shouting distance. Now mine are 14 and 17 and im having to let go again, daughter to uni, son growing up fast and being able to leave them in the house for a few hours makes me feel as if im doing something wrong, haven't quite got there yet.
miss not knowing about the wheels on the bus and teletubbies and supermarket sweep (I got a bit addicted while they were babies!)
miss the freedom of not having to find sports kit, shoes, coats etc or make lunches for three every day.
miss working and the money aspect.
miss just being me and not having to think about anyone else.0 -
Its different for everyone, especially depending on how much support you get. We don't have family nearby and my husband works really long hours, so I really miss sleeping whenever I feel like it.
I also miss my friends. A lot of them live further away, all of them driving distance, and with working full time, running a house & looking after a toddler I don't get to see them as much as I used to.
All that is compensated by the best cuddles I've ever had, absolute sincerity in any commiseration and complete focus on the here and now.Other opinions are available.0 -
Can I just say that travel doesn't have to stop when you have children.
Well it didn't for us apart from a period when DD was a baby and had to have a series of operations.

i totally agree, we've travelled with DD since she was 3 months old - however the type of holiday activities completely changed for me once i had a child with me.0
