Do you know what to do with a nosebleed?

  • Haha I've been on a night out before, was sick, developed a nose bleed, obviously swallowed a lot and was throwing up blood which was interesting for bystanders!

In all seriousness I was probably 5 minutes away from getting in an ambulance as due to the alcohol it didn't want to clot!

    Oh the memories :)

    I've been Money Tipped!
My eldest DS recently posted a piccy on FB with a tampax up his nose. It worked apparently. Sigh!

    That's clever! :D
Public appearances now involve clothing. Sorry, it's part of my bail conditions.
  • I've had the grand total of one nosebleed ever, which was a few months ago. Yeah, tilting the head back is a bad idea, yuck! Pinch bridge of nose and head forwards until it stops.

    RUGBY CLUB RULES:
Haul the sufferer over a sink by the ears. (They can swab the bar floor later.)
Get them in a half Nelson & tell them to pinch the bony bit of their nose.
If anyone has an icepack, apply it to any exposed skin at the small of the back, then after the shock & laughter have died down, move it to the neck or forehead as the sufferer prefers.
    Wait.
If they are still bleeding after 20 minutes, get one of the medics from the bar & ask for advice.

If Not at Rugby, move sufferer onto easy to clean flooring, sit them leaning forward gripping bridge of nose & wait. Reassure.
If still dripping after 20 minutes, consider availability of wadding & transportation to a medic.

My son (6 at the time) had a nosebleed after running into an iron bar at a football club party. 2 of the other parents ended up arguing with the so called first aider as she was telling us to tilt him back which we knew was wrong.
The bit my son remembers most is one of the dads going into the ladies for toilet roll as it was softer than in the mens.

  • I had to call NHS Direct once as my mum was suffering from a nosebleed and wouldn't stop (it had been going for a good ten minutes) the lady told me to tell me mum to lean forward with fingers pinched at the top of her nose and to get something cold out of the freezer to put on it also.

It seemed to do the trick thank god as with my mum her blood doesn't clot very well and most of the time the clots come out too

They have obviously never seen the old British Sterling SMG in action then, a wet horse blanket would stop one from that 9 times out of 10.

Well I've been doing it wrong for so long.

I always tilt my head back and pinch the top of the nose!!! Thankfully I don't tend to get them very much.

My dad was on a nasal spray which gave him awful nosebleeds. The best one was in the supermarket in the bakery section where it started and he sneezed, covering all the bakery products in a lovely bloody mist, and then all over the floor. Looked like Midsummers Murders had hit Waitrose. They had to get the Paramedics out because it was gushing!
  • I remember when I was about 8 arguing with the playground supervisor at school when my brother, who would have been 5, was having a nose bleed and she tilted his head back. Even at that age I was shocked an adult wouldn't know to make him lean his head forwards.
