Your contract doesn't end 2/2/14, only your minimum term does.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

You cried? Over a phone? Really?!?

No. I got upset and frustrated because I felt like I was being messed around and how long it was taking to get sorted out. I'm working nights so I stayed up for delivery, looking forward to it - and then it was such a let down.

Just be glad you can escape from that bad deal. Wait until Feb and port out. Buy a nice phone outright or get your iPhone unlocked. Go payg or capped sim only and spend the savings on something nice. Perhaps you need a nice holiday?
  • You say I can escape from it - I've been on the phone for more than 2 hours now trying to sort out a return and nobody can help me. Orange's return people say I need to speak to ee or t mobile, ee said they can't help me I need to speak to t mobile or activate the phone before they can see it on their system, or ring another department who say I need to ring another department who disconnect me and t mobile to date I haven't been able to speak too as they've disconnected me twice. Because it turns out my additional line is with t mobile, when I asked for direct from ee or orange when I sorted out my "upgrade".
  • I wouldn't activate it. Is there any paperwork with the 'new line'? There must be a cooling off period and details of how to cancel.

Thanks guys for your input so far!

Turns out it wasn't an additional line. I rang again and got through to someone who looked through everything with their supervisor and she confirmed it was an upgrade after all, and that the two people who told me it was an additional line were based overseas and misunderstood something on their internal systems, and the second person who "confirmed" it as an additional line went by the first persons notes, rather than checking themselves.

I have however cancelled the upgrade anyway and they're sending me a Jiffy bag. I have to pay postage however Ill consider that part of my lesson learnt. I've looked up and Vodafone have a much better deal. I spoke to her about how much it would be to cancel my contract and she said by the time the handset has been returned, it'll be around £20. I may do that as while I know you're paying money for nothing - its cheaper than paying the £40 I currently pay on my contract for another month, and the Vodafone deal as advertised is £38 a month if you pay nothing for the phone and you get galaxy gear for free. If I can offer to pay something towards the handset and get it cheaper then it'll be even better.

I know I can save money in the long term by buying the phone outright - however that isn't really an option for me. I just want to cut away from EE/Orange forever and move away from Apple, too. There are so many other better phones out there that suit my needs that aren't just a status symbol.
  • Glad you have managed to cancel.

In order to 'cut away' you should consider buying your own phone and get a sim not on a contract. I have bought my own phone plus a sim ( from Ovivo ). I also managed to get the recent t-mobile freebie sim, being charged 1p a month, all my 08 numbers free. It is a contract but I will just need to review it in 12 months time.

It just feels less beholding to the mobile companies.
  • I'm awaiting the Jiffy bag still.

I will of course send it via Royal Mail first class recorded, but I'm concerned about sending it via post after reading a thread on here about someone who returned a phone to ee and they claimed they never received it despite proof of postage.
