Told it was an upgrade for my contract - actually misold an additional line, help!

read my second post for an update to this problem, this is my original post!
So today's the 17th, my early upgrade day is the 19th however after much research I decided I really wanted the galaxy note 3. I went for black as its a slimming colour for such a huge phone... Hehe.
So I gave Orange a call and they offered me £45 a month for unlimited calls and texts, 2G of 3G data and pay £69 for the handset. Even though I rang a few days before upgrade day they waived the fee. When I first called he said he couldn't do that - it depended on the phone I wanted - as soon as I went for an expensive model it all changed. Funny how that works!
I've had a look on price comparison and is does look like the best 3G deal I can get from orange. I am pleased with it as it is much cheaper than what I currently pay for my iPhone - he said my average bill is £65 a month! Mainly because I'm going over on calls (didn't have unlimited) and Internet (I only had 250mb).
I wasn't too fussed about getting 4G as at home I will be using my very fast wifi, and I work at a hospital and on my breaks signal isn't great anyway - I'm more interested in having good games and using my phone as an ereader for my work breaks. The only time I use Internet out and about is when I'm shopping and want to compare prices on something, checking my emails while in the car (partner driving not me!) and on the occasional trips out for holidays in the uk and seeing family. I really don't see myself needing to download movies when I'm out, and downloading youtube videos works pretty good on 3G for me (on the rare occasions I've had to do it).
Thoughts anyone?

you almost certainly would have got a better deal if you had waited until you were in the last 30 days of your minimum term and requested your PAC code.
if you got through mobiles.co.uk, you can get unlimited texts / mins, but with only 1 gig of data for £32.50 a month0 -
Bloody hell....
You can get 4G tariffs cheaper than that.
That's £1149 over two years. On Amazon you can buy the Note 3 for £430. So that means you're paying £30pm for the airtime.
T-Mobile do 1000 mins, unl texts and 3GB of data for half the price (£16pm) and even cheaper with cashback.
You went for a rubbish deal. Sorry. I really can't wrap my head around the fact that people pay more than £30pm for a phone. I pay £12.50pm for my SIM Only plan which is Three's One plan which is by and far the best deal on the market.0 -
Not good at all. Desperate for the new phone i suppose. Upgrade deals are NEVER much good. You went for an 'early upgrade', basically they saw you coming. You wanted a new phone now so you would take whatever they offered and they knew this.
If you waited till you could cancel (within 30 days of minimum term date) then requested a PAC you would have got a much better deal. Probably got the phone for free at least.
Sorry if its a bit blunt but you asked.0 -
It's a good deal in the sense that you're paying £20 less every month for a better phone and way better tariff. I would hope that includes phone insurance as it's a very expensive phone to replace. I know someone with a Note II, dropped it and can't afford to get it fixed and still has to pay for the remainder of the term. Ouch!
If you travel outside Europe you'll need to get it unlocked as it will be region SIM locked, search for RegionLockAway.0 -
My contract is expiring shortly so I'm looking at the Note 3 as well.
Unfortunately you have a bit of a horrible deal from what I've seen of the prices at the moment.
However, you did know what you were paying when you signed up so unless you have a cooling off period to change your mind, just enjoy what you've got.0 -
Hi all the experience has got worse.
Turns out it wasn't with orange via ee, it was with t-mobile, and it wasn't 3G it was 4g. My partner got a better deal through Vodafone so I rang them to say I was going to cancel delivery unless I got a better offer - they offered me 5gb of 4g for the same price, I agreed although she said I had to wait until delivery of the phone.
Phone came and long story short they didn't send a microsim, and I found out I had actually been sold an additional line rather than an upgrade!!! They speculated it was just processed weird. Very angry. And I can't just send the sim back for another one as an upgrade - nope I have to send the sim AND the phone back in a Jiffy bag only for another one to be sent out if I do decide to actually upgrade with them this time!
When ringing to sort this out I have been given 2 incorrect numbers to cancel the line with so as yet I haven't been able to cancel it. I have got an address to write a letter of complaint with. It took me 2.5 hours of phone calls to find out that it was an additional line, one guy claimed that "the systems are down, just ring back tomorrow and smile more its Christmas we sort it out then". What?!
I've lodged a complaint with ofcom. Going to open a complaint with ombudsmen once I've worked through the orange complaint procedure. I am very angry and have shed tears over this as I was so looking forward to my Xmas present. Now I may ever buy my way out of my contract to leave EE or demand an amazingly discounted contract for the hassle.0 -
Can I clarify if possible?
You got what you thought was an upgrade but were sold an additional new contract.
The company have accepted this.
If the above is true then cancel the additional contract and then ask for your PAC to leave and move your original contract elsewhere0 -

Will do, and yes that's right.
My contract doesn't end until february 2nd though, will another company pay my final bill?0 -
You cried? Over a phone? Really?!?0

if you have resolved the additional line mis sale then just put your patient hat on and wait till your contract end is in sight - then negotiate a real deal. Maybe even seek out advice here on whats on offer. I am sure there will be lots of other things to be excited about over the bnext week.John0
