Home for Christmas?

I will be going home to my mum's as usual, and I absolutely can't wait. I love my family and friends, and relish spending a week or so with them.
Since mum died I don't have a home to go to (other than my own of course) My dad and step-mum never invited us over for Christmas, the last couple of years they have gone to my half brother's house for the day. We will go over to Dad's sometime between Christmas and New year for the afternoon.
I miss going to mum's house for Christmas, she loved it, she started planning for the next one on boxing day I think
Awwww ((((hugs)))) xxI'll be going home for Christmas - albeit that's only about half a mile away. I've lived in my own "home" for over 7 years but never spent Christmas here and I still get shouted at if I call it "home". Home is where my Mum and Dad are and the house I grew up in.
I'll probably go there around 23rd and only leave when they get sick of me!
Same here on all counts lol. :rotfl:Life is a gift... and I intend to make the most of mine :A

This will be the first year we haven't gone to either my parents or OH's.
We are staying at home as we have 2 little one's now, and all the rushing about with a toddler and a 4 month old baby is just too much. My mother is also polar opposite to most mum's and actually would prefer not to have her grown up kids and their offspring descending on them this year. I think at 75 she feels they've done their Christmas's and all the hassle of organising it all is too much, which I completely appreciate.
My mum, dad and brother will be coming to us for Boxing Day, and we will be heading up to OH's parents place in Warwickshire on the 27th for a few days.
It'll be quite nice being able to watch what we want on the TV this year

My home is where I live with my kitten and OH.
Christmas with 2 as a couple is what you make it. I loved our Christmas alone together, I find getting together with everyone raises stress levels and I couldn't bare to spend a day with my 6 yo half brother.
Fair enough he's entitled and should get excited but its too much for me, my mum makes it a long hard day. When all I want to do is relax.0 -
Only home I know of is our own now. My mum died 2 years ago but even when she was alive I never went home to xmas she did come to us for a few years before she passed away. I wish I could turn clock back now miss her so much. You take things for granted. Best years are when kids are young and enjoy them opening presents and there faces light up, priceless. I miss that time, I am not complaining I am more than happy the way things are0

For first 15 years we were together my OH and I did the round trip from Berkshire to Yorkshire for Christmas and then to Wales for New Year, or the other way round, back home just in time to go back to work.
I really hated it.
As soon as we had DS we said we wanted him to have Christmas in his own home and ever since we've stayed put - it's so nice to just relax in your own place! My mum comes to stay with us and MIL used to visit but nowadays she can't be bothered (that's a whole other thread)... which is fine with me!! :rotfl:0 -
At what point does your own home become "home" then? We have older children who have their own places, they are coming to us for Christmas, which means we can't go to my M-I-L, which is obviously DH's "home", so whose home takes precedence? Given my own way we would always stay in our home (managed it for the last 7
). 0 -

For me it was the first place I lived in that was a full flat/house ie I wasn't a lodger.0 -

who's home takes precedence is entirely up to each person/family, and how and where each family has xmas/holidays/special occasions is entirely up to them too
.
my "home town" is where i grew up. "where i live" (or to give it its other title when I'm "home" - "down the road") is the house i live in, and its my daughters "home" as its where she has grown up. Its "home" to me too, I consider I have 2, as I'm settled here, but consider my mum's home town as "home" as well

Me and OH will be going to my mums and staying the night, then popping into his parents on the way home on boxing day. We only live half hour from each of them.
Personally, I can't imagine a Christmas without my mum, her shouting at my dad to get dinner cooked while she does nothing but watch movies with me like a couple of big kids.0 -
I love peace and quiet at Christmas and a little sophistication.0
