Thanks - what I thought and I know I was stupid, it was one of those 'it is late, kids are in the car and hungry, seller has a nice house and looks middle class' thangs.

Obviously very easy to see with hindsight but if I were selling I'm not sure it would be worth scamming someone for 40 quid, especially not for cash on collection where the buyer might be very local. You live and learn.

If I name and shame them (eBay name only) on here or elsewhere am I opening myself up to any comeback?

Why would you want to name and shame.

Playing devils advocate, you have transported and cleaned the microwave, either or both could have contributed to the turntable not rotating…...

Not that it matters, but the first microwave I had never had a rotating turntable and worked for about 10 years satisfactorily :D

Because the poster claims the microwave is useless when it isn't. Quite a helpful post really

I'm not sure that a private seller can be held responsible for Dorothy Perkins shoddy workmanship.

The seller does not guarantee their durability, and I expect they did not describe them as hardwearing.
I'd be a bit annoyed if one of my buyers wore the second hand stuff I flogged on ebay then tried to send it back saying it wore out too soon.

Ah. Yes, contact them first. I thought you already had and they said no returns. Remember that selecting a reason for contact automatically opens a case now.

You could send a photo but if it's trouble to upload see what they say and offer to send a photo if they want it.

It stated no returns on their auction; but I didn't expect them to fall apart so normally wouldn't have been bothered by that. I have opened a dispute; if they don't honour a return then I will have to write it off.

You said "The seller says they don't accept returns" - but then it turns out you havent even asked? Give me strength.

1/ Ebay automatically put no returns until seller changes it. Many don't - especially new ones.
2/ No returns means you cant buy, change your mind and return - it has absolutely nothing to do with damaged / faulty items.
3/ Ebay buyer protection means you can return within 45 days.

And above all else - CONTACT THE SELLER FIRST!!!!

I didn't ask as it said on their auction no returns.

I understand DP are at fault, but if I'd bought them from the high street then I would expect them to withstand being walked in. I am not pulling a fast one as you implied. I have been on Ebay years and am 100% trustworthy. However, when I buy BNIB ( not second hand as you stated), I don't expect it to fall apart. Whether that be high street or not.

  • It stated no returns on their auction; but I didn't expect them to fall apart so ormally wouldn't have been bothered by that. I have opened a dispute; if they don't honour a return then I will have to write it off.

Always ignore the returns policy. If you have a problem always contact the seller and always contact them first before opening a case.

If you cannot reach a solution or they do not reply then open up an ebay case and give them chance to reply. If nothing is sorted then escalate it to ebay.

Shoes are difficult, did they look OK when you first got them they must of or you would have complained then.
Perhaps DP is not the best place to buy hard wearing shoes/boots you expect to last long
