Penultimate payday before Christmas! Hoping this and next should mean I get through to January without having to lend anything from Mum to keep me going, really want to start 2014 with just 'third party' debt and no family debts!

Car has gone back into the garage :( Part that failed under warranty was replaced and then failed again, in an entirely different way :/ just not my week! However it should all come under the parts warranty as theyve failed in very different ways, so so far nothing to pay and hope it stays that way!! (still leaves me without a car, but I have a railcard so it should mean festive travelling won't be more expensive, just more inconvenient!)

I have put £250 into savings this month. I know this seems backwards when I'm in debt BUT its a necessity. I have a fairly decent account but I need to pay in every month to see a return. Mum and Dad have inheritance money which is mine through them, but they want to see me saving (they don't know about debts :( ) Theyre good sensible people, not like me, so I want to keep up the savings, pay of all my debt and hopefully add even more to the savings pot to keep all happy this year! As silly as it sounds it will be doubly motivating for me to see savings going up and debt going down, and it will be worth the small amount of interest I pay at the mo to keep everything and everyone happy!

I still have a chunk from payday left, it won't last long as I have bills out at end of the month and car tax to pay! Joy, going to pay 6 months, then hopefully 12 months in June so it stops falling at Christmas! I also owe my cousin some money for Christmas presents (she works at a store so gets 50% discount so she got some things for me, waiting for the damage to come through!)

All in all though I am still on track to get a good start in January. Had some annoying bills this month (a very old WTC overpayment and a salary overpayment from last Feb) so its been an expensive month and I feel a bit overwhelmed, but hopefully January will bring with it a bit of breathing space!

Also going to join some of the other survey sites listed on this thread to see if any others do any good for me!
  • I don't think it is a bad idea to have some savings if that is what motivates you.

I cant wait to start saving up I have always had good intentions, opened my first credit union account when I was 16 but never saved anything up!!!

Terrible but I am hoping that this is all going to change.

Life will always be easier if you have a wee but of savings tucked away for that rainy day.

I've signed up to three more survey sites, see how I go with those, currently doing a million mini ones on global test market to update my profile and apparently entering a £1500 prize draw, I should be so lucky :P
  • Good luck!!

[Please note, I'm not feeling very well, so if I'm coming across as muddled or even insulting, please forgive me]

I know this probably sounds silly but just because you're in debt you aren't the opposite of good and sensible. You're dealing with your debt and that is both incredibly good and sensible.

Also I always think it's a good thing to have a little bit of money as a back up plan. I know some people have CC or OD for this, but it's always nice to have a buffer.

I'm sorry you're having a tough time with your car though.

I'm so close to having enough to get £40 from GTM but no luck today. So very close. :rotfl:

Thank you for that! Not at all insulting, in fact very reassuring! I think my parents would just be disappointed I'm in debt as there's really no 'reason' for it. Will keep up both savings and debt reoayments. My aim is to have one £1000 OD paid off by the end of March. January will be tight after this month but all of those 'little niggly' debts to WTC and old work are gone so I have nothing to think about except my OD and CC.

Signed up to all those sites you mentioned except Pinecone which I think you need to be invited to or they have special sign up times :)

I truly doubt your parents will be disappointed, they may be worried for your welfare, but disappointed nah. Besides, there may be debts (current or historic) that they have that you'll never know about. It's just what parents do for their kids.

I hate January, it's just full of stress. And it's cold. Ugh. I am getting lavender free heat sock/pad things for christmas though!

I think I signed up to pincone through a different survey site (they will try to recruit for each other occasionally and sometimes will pay you for it!), it's pretty awesome but not frequent.

Got £60 Christmas money and just found out the gym will be free this month as I did some promo stuff for them due to my weight loss! Will all go somewhere sensible!
