2014 - year to sort debt and get saving for a deposit!

Hello!
2014 is the year I am going to get sorted on my student debts, of £5300! Eek! Not great but could be worse.
My wages vary wildly so a SOA is pretty difficult but I do know that I should be able to do it if I am sensible. My guaranteed wages will leave me falling short by about £1000 to repay BUT I have a lot if scope for over time which will all go into the pot! Really looking forward to whittling it down and getting my foot on the property ladder! Aiming to have saved over 10k by this time in two years!
So that's me. Will keep this updated with how I get on! Just had my car fixed and MOT'd so hoping for a year free from car bills!

Hey Marlie.
I am in exactly the same boat as you.
I will be debt free from the end of this month due to being laid off at work.
I am however now unemployed which is a bummer.
I would love to be able to buy a house in around 2 years aswell so its great that someone else on here is looking to do that in around the same timescale as me.
Best of luck & I will catch up with you on here.

We will do it! You're ahead of me on debt, and I'm ahead of you in weight loss do we can help each other out haha! I've lost 4stone 10 in a year, 7lb to ideal weight!
Moved back home a year ago after a slight disaster, but onwards and upwards! I've sorted everything except my debt so this is my last thing to sort

My weight has been up & down like a yoyo for years but it is time to get a good ole grip of myself before it gets too out of control.
Of course we will help each other - love it! I have got myself a saving up for a house buddy - yippeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

I'm aiming for 10% to 15%. As I'm in the North East you can get quite cute little cottages for around 100k-125k in the smaller villages so that's my aim. My credit rating is ok with no defaults and will hopefully improve once I reduce my debt! Got a big notebook to list my additional work and everything I spend weekly to see what I'm doing. Would probably be easier to do it on the computer will have to see if it has a money/budget programme!0

Its good to keep it written aswell & if you cant get to the PC all the time.
I have a new 2014 diary so will keep wee notes to myself & was thinking about keeping a spending diary too.
Will be scary to see how much money I waste on useless rubbish!
Oh I would love to buy a wee cottage somewhere.

Id love to save for a deposit too but I keep finding carp to buy. I also have about 4 years of saving due to my file.0

I have years of saving ahead of me but just keep thinking how amazing it will be when I own my home.

Got two days extra work so that's good! Not counting anything yet but it will help with going into the new year less on the back foot due to car bills! My dads also polished my headlamps so I don't need to pay someone to get the tarnish off. Good old dads!

Hey, good luck on the debt busting and then the saving! I am also saving, I'm saving for doing some more qualifications, saving for a house and saving for the future in general (pension, investments etc). So I'll be following your diary with interest.
Roxy, if I find something I want to buy and do not necessarily need I force myself to earn it outside of my normal earnings. For example, not spending my monthly entertainment budget, earning online etc. If I'm not willing to do that for it, then I don't really want it. :rotfl:0
