Debt Recovery Plus letter relating to ticket in April 2012???

Options
So, last April I had a ticket and followed the advice on this thread:

https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/3925903

Received lots of letters (all ignored) and then heard nothing since about June 2012.

Today I get a letter from Debt Recovery Plus asking for £120? I understand the rules have changed since 2012 - do I continue to ignore this letter or challenge it or....??

<Sorry if this has been answered somewhere else, I couldn't find anything similar>

Continue to ignore. Yes the rules changed, but they don't apply retrospectively. (PPCs are trying it on with older cases in the hope that "victims" will be bamboozled and just pay up).
  • Aha - that's very cheeky! Thank you for your help.
  • I'm in the same boat got one today from a case 1year and 7 months old!! Hope it's just a quick attempt for money :(
  • I assume from ukpc tickets?

There has been a mass mail-shot by UKPC this week, it seems - to scare a few idiots into paying up - but you really only need to respond if you get a Letter before Claim from a solicitor or from UKPC themselves. What happened when you complained to the retailer, like you would, if it was a retail park?!

Read this, it was at the top of the forum with the other sticky info threads newbies should read first!

NEWBIES!! PRIVATE PARKING TICKET? EVEN AN OLD ONE? ***READ THIS FIRST*** Thankyou!

...that thread covers in simple terms what all the acronyms mean, how to appeal with a DOZEN linked examples...what to do if you miss the appeal deadline & get to debt collector letters stage...copies of Debt Recovery Plus letters...and yet every day, newbies don't read it.

There's also a sticky thread about how to complain to the retailers to get these fake PCNs cancelled, if they were in retail/leisure parks.

And another one about how to deal with a Letter before County Court Claim 'LBCCC' (if you do get sent a real one from UKPC or the solicitor firm).

:( (why am I constantly replying simply to point out the sticky threads at the top of the parking board, that newbies are supposed to read first?).
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

  • Hi Kirkby... Yes from a UKPC ticket.

Hi coupon mad. I have done loads of reading in here, read stickys also.
I was just saying I can't be bothered with letter after letter again. I even read your post explaining I don't need to do anything as my ticket was before September 2012 so you had the wrong end of the stick thinking I was a lazy newbie :).

Your posts have been helpful in the past, so i thank you for that.

Thank you for the quotes but I wasn't sure this related to contraventions occurring almost 2 years ago.. this is more for current pcns.

Yes the ticket was UKPC. It was from a university, where the university security not employed by UKPC give out tickets. I once asked for the documentation regarding the contract between the security and UKPC but all they told me was they give the tickets, ukpc deal with admin and if I were to complain the uni would accept or reject the ticket (this was for a different ticket though which got cancelled due to incorrect validation or something)

The 'Newbies' thread section near the top, about your options re debt collector letters, isn't just about new ones. The info applies to any old ones too.

See that similar thread where I mentioned that I have just this afternoon edited the 'Newbies' thread to include the Parking Prankster blog about this.
