UKPC Parking ticket, drat! Think I'm in the wrong...

Options
Hello all *waves*

A few days ago I received a parking ticket from UKPC. It is my fault, I was parked outside my work, there are many signs, and I parked in the corner of the car park as it was the last space available and I was late, unfortunately there was also a double yellow line on the side i was parked (which has only recently been painted). The University clearly has recently started employing these dudes to give out tickets to those parking in breach of the rules.

I will throw my hands up and say I probably shouldn't have parked there. But most advice i have seen on here and other forums is not to pay UKPC. What would you advise I do?

TIA

Don't pay. "Double yellow lines" (or any other markings) have no legal validity whatsoever on private land. You have not, therefore, committed any form of "offence" except for one which has been made up in an effort to extract money from you.

Second point: No private individual or company has any right whatsoever to impose a fine on another. Only those authorised by Parliament (such as councils, police, or Transport for London) have the right to do so.

Therefore, although they dress it up to copy a REAL parking ticket, UKPC have NO right to enforce it because theirs is FAKE.

That won't stop them trying to, let's say, suggest strongly that you should pay.

But it isn't legal and you have no need or obligation to pay.

Your best plan is to simply forget it ever happened. Do not contact them, don't appeal, don't respond in any way to the assorted junk mail that they and some cronies masquerading as debt collectors will send you.

Everything they send is a carefully worded, pre-planned routine which they send to everyone.

If you are interested, look at the sticky second thread down from the top, to get a preview of what to expect.

After they have sent the last of their letters they will give up. They do not waste their time/money on further letters and most certainly not on a doomed court case.

In fact if you never respond they CAN'T do court as they will have no way of showing who the driver was....

    Ignore, ignore, ignore.

    Any questions?

Thank you both! Really useful advice and has put my mind at rest.

Really hope something is done about them as you can't go anywhere without seeing their signs now, tempted to put my own up to warn others!

Just tell everyone you know and work with that they are purely parasites and should never be paid. Spread the word, these ghastly people only profit because so many drivers are ignorant of the law and do not realise that it is all a scam.

No offence, but maybe like you before you came on here?

I sure will, I was thinking of phoning security to let them know too - they are the ones who hand out the notices after all, UKPC are getting them to do the dirty work!! Cheeky nubbers!

Got my first letter today. I shall frame it! 8 more?? How dumb do they assume people to be, surely they would give up after 3?

I do admit i had a little wobble today. Suddenly thought as it was completely my fault they may end up trying me in court....but we will see, will try to stay strong! Just hope the security men don't come after me!!

UKPC don't do Court. No, rephrase that, they do court, but as "The Accused".

    So don't worry.
