Scary knock at door

  • I can understand how scared you might have been. I am going back about 13 years but I recall something like that happening to me, I was living alone in my early 20's and someone was knocking on my door constantly, and then the window, it scared me I can tell you. This 'man' wouldn't give up... in the end I called my dad in tears who lived around the corner and who came to investigate, turned out the 'man' was actually wanting the woman next door, and had got the wrong house!

Good lord you have a vivid imagination !
I can think of at least five more likely scenarios -none of which involve "Unofficial debt" .

I doubt it was a debt collector or a bailiff, but I would think it was definitely connected with the previous residents, possibly to do with some kind of 'unofficial' debt. In your position, I would be asking the person through the door

I'm surprised you did not do this - at least now, we would not be speculating about what this is about and we could give some more concrete suggestions to deal with it.

So what. List your possibilities too.

I not that you don't rule mine out, so I am not the least repentant about mentioning it. The quicker OP works out what the issue is, the more easily she will be able to resolve it.
You might as well ask the Wizard of Oz to give you a big number as pay a Credit Referencing Agency for a so-called 'credit-score'

If you're getting post for the previous occupant and just shoving it back in the post, it's not going to stop. Open the next one, if it is to do with a debt collection company, call them and tell them they don't live there any more.

I will definitely. The only reason I haven't in the past is because I thought it was illegal to do so.

  • My bet would be on a chugger.

They're rife this time of year, trying to catch on to the good will of the people and make a few pennies for charity and loads for their boss.

Rediculously pushy with no concern at what time they knock. They've got targets and can't leave an area until they've got x amount of sign ups. We have had them a few times recently coming very, very late and people posting warnings on the community boards of them trying doors

They scary thing is though, they were genuine chuggers if there's such a thing, when checked out.

Instead of just looking through the peephole, why didn't you shout through the door to ask who he was?
Chances are he was just someone who knocked at the wrong house, I don't think a thief would want to attract the attention of the householder by knocking for 5 minutes.
The last person I would assume he was after a thief is a bailiff.

I rarely answer my door so I'm always left faintly wondering who it was. You get used to it.

The house could have been an old Stassi/KGB safe house................(well about as likely as any other theory on here)
