  • Perhaps it's because people have to work longer hours and at unsociable times meaning they sleep during the time the branches are open.

I know when I started my current role which was based on shifts and banked with Natwest I had to go up to the branch for a few things and it was quite annoying as when I went in it wasn't as if any human decision making was involved, the person just input the details and read from the screen, some server somewhere had made the decision.

I suspect that to be because the staff on that pay grade don't want the responsibility of making the decisions. They'll never be fired for entering details and asking the computer to make the decision.
  • All Banks Are depressing and normally staffed by robots, so unless you find a bank that only opens on a Saturday night where the staff are allowed to get drunk you might as well stay at RBS .

MetroBank isn't depressing and is even open on Sundays!
  • Yes I agree, I think it depends which branch of RBS you go to! I have 2 nearby branches, one of them has miserable surly staff, the other has pleasant, smiley and friendly staff! The front counter staff also dont earn great wages unlike their counterparts!

My branch (i.e. the one I opened my account at) is well maintained and has friendly staff. I seldom have to visit but have never waited more than a few minutes in a queue and they don't try and sell me their poor products.

Fortunately the IT problems haven't affected me to my detriment (yet!) and any other issues I've had have been dealt with quickly. I find them pleasant to deal with on the phone and they have started the switch to 03 numbers which is good.

I have been in other branches which are dated (the ones with screens between the customer and teller) and have less pleasant staff so I guess I'm just lucky with mine.

Realised after replying that this thread is a couple of months old.
