What perks can you get elsewhere?
Let that answer your question.
1. none
2. santander 123 is about £159 less the £24 running cost
per year cashback
i tend to think it's better the devil i know, and i just get a niggly worry that the switching process would go into meltdown during my switchthats all that really puts me off moving 100% away from rbs. i keep my savings in nationwide for now, i have a 1st direct account not really used and a halifax account not really used, the rbs one has my direct debits going out and my wages going in

Switching is easy. You can either get the bank to do it, or just contact your direct debit companies and employer yourself and move the payments over.
By moving to any of the banks (/building society) that you mentioned, you'll get much better customer service than at RBS. And, going by previous performance, better computer systems too.
So you could get £135 per year from Santander, £60 per year from Halifax (£5 monthly reward) or £100 in the first year (5% interest, less tax) from Nationwide ... sounds like a no-brainer to me.0 -
The one feature of RBS/NatWest which is unique, as far as I know, is how you can withdraw cash without a card. Twice now I have driven some distance and realised I had forgotten my wallet. Using the GetCash facility on a mobile phone you can generate a code which allows you to draw cash from an RBS/NatWest/Tesco cash machine without having to insert your card.
A while ago I went to London for the evening and lost my wallet. As it happened I was with a friend who lent me the cash to buy a train ticket home. Had I gone down by myself I don't know what I would have done - it was 11pm at night. Other banks will help their customers, but only when the branches are open.
I have a NatWest account although I don't use it day-to-day. I'm not closing it because of the GetCash service. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

The 'Wolseley' on London's Piccadilly used to be a branch of Barclays Bank, providing banking services on the grandest scale imaginable.

Sorry, they don't make banks like this any more!
Or as the old woman used to say in the 90s Natwest ads, trendy wine bars!
Seriously though, the crap IT and recently uncovered business practices should be enough to persuade you to switch.Interests: PCs. servers, networks, mobiles and music (esp. trance)0 -

I'm not sure about that.0 -
None of the bank should be proud of their IT systems.0

They're probably upset that not many people like to use the branch, most people want everything done over the phone and are often infuriated if they're prompted to use branch.0
