I don't really understand the problem with telling people the nice things you've done. If you really wanted to boast about something then why on earth would you tell a bunch of strangers who have absolutely no idea who you are and probably won't even recognise your username if they came across you somewhere else on the forum?0

That's what I thought - none of us know who anyone else is so it doesn't matter. There's lots of stuff I would say/tell people on here but wouldn't in 'real' life!
As someone else said, it gives others ideas that they may not have thought of.0 -
I love this kind (did you see what I did there
) of thread
I think people are often inclined to pass on the bad things that have happened to them or others and not so keen to pass on the good things, making people feel the world is a lot less of kinder than it actually is. It's also given me some ideas for the future.
Having said that my contribution is pretty small - I always leave magazines/newspapers in airport waiting rooms (although I suspect they are cleaned up pretty quickly by cleaners).
I once walked a man with a guide dog up a road (not across
), his dog had stopped and the man couldn't figure out why. It may have been that the pavement was narrow but the dog was happy to move forward as long as he was in the middle of us.
I gave the woman behind me a till spit £x off an £x spend in Tesco once. I knew I would never spend as much and she had a huge trolley full.
I always try and let those with a few things go ahead of me on the till.
I always try and thanks those who let me out of junctions etc.
So not much but hopefully at least enough to balance the times when I'm unconsciously grumpy and rude to people

I would never dream of telling you what I do for charity.
Yuck you are all so indulgent you need to come here and get thanks.
The OP asked a question, people answered it. Maybe people just want to share some stories of a positive nature, nothing wrong with that.
I dont need to go anywhere to get thanks. I dont expect to be thanked for anything I do for another human being in real life or online.
If I did anything just to get a thank you Id never do anything for another person at all ever.0 -
I;m a recipient, I was travelling home from Newcastle city centre, just about to buy a ticket for the bus, and a young lad gave me his brothers day pass cos he'd finished with it. I always pass on parking tickets and I always let people go ahead of me in a supermarket queue if they've got a basket and I've got a trolley.0

Lovely idea for a thread and not at all inappropriate, boastful or self congratulatory IMHO.
Just today a local farmer caught our pet pony and put her safely in her stable after she'd escaped.
Last Christmas I offered a revision lesson to a local girl struggling with GCSEs. It ended up being about ten!
There is a lovely video on you tube, sadly can't remember its name, which is people making kind gestures which then are passed on in a chain.

This is a fab thread! I don't think it is boasting but even if it is, why does it matter? At least they are doing something thoughtful for others and this thread is a kick up the bum for people who perhaps don't do as much because they are too absorbed in their own little worlds (me!)
I am definitely going to make more of an effort to make some random acts of kindness

The reason I like this thread is it may give me an idea I had not though of to help someone.
I always give my parking ticket on, like another poster above I have let people go ahead if they just have a couple of items in the supermarket, or have suggested they go yo the cigarette counter if they just have a couple of items and the basket queue is long.
I do to others as I would like people to do to me. I pass toys and clothes down to friends or my children's friends parents and have received things for my children from friends and colleagues.0 -
Certainly not having a go at anyone on here but isn't sad that the things that have been mentioned on here, at the end of the day, should be every day happenings?2014 Target;

Not wishing to put a damper on, but be careful passing on 'day bus tickets' or car park tickets, as I'm fairly sure these are non-transferable, and if there's a sharp-eyed bus driver/car park attendant, or CCTV around, you could end up in trouble.
I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe
