Random acts of kindness this christmas

For some reason my "thank you button" does not seem to register when I try and thank posts individually
I absoultley acknowkedge that acts of kindness shouldnt just happen at christmas, but I guess its a time of year when you do think more about those around you....and when you reflect on the year thats past....
So if anyone would like to pass a random act of kindness back to me...and knows how I can reinstate my thank you button....I would be very grateful.
its been like it for a few days I click on thanks but nothing registers and then it disappears......I'm starting to wonder if regular users of the forums think im being rather rude in not thanking them for their contributions!!!!
I often get this on my mobile phone, and occasionally on my laptop. The Thanks button disappears, but if I refresh the page (or in the case of the phone I have to close the forums and open again) the button is back, and usually works at a second attempt. Not sure what causes it, but it's annoying when I really want to thank a post and this happens, as when I'm on the phone it's sometimes too much hassle to go through the hassle.
Very humbling and inspiring thread, thank you all for posting your contributions. Think I fall into the "could do better" category
. Will make a point of trying!

I now hand on my car park tickets whenever possible.
A week or two ago, I was in my car (parked by a meter) faffing with my bag, and was vaguely aware of someone though the window fumbling about with coins and pockets. It occurred to me just in time there was plenty left on my ticket, so whizzed down the window and passed it over. The guy was made up and said it was actually his birthday :T
When my youngest was a baby, I had shopped in !celand, not realising you can't push the trolley out to the carpark
I managed about 10yards with (heavy!) baby in 1 arm and 4 bags of freezer stuff in the other, feeling very stressed. I dropped the bags. And the most unlikely pair came to my aid
a mum and who I assumed to be her teenage daughter, fags hanging out of mouths, the living, breathing daily mail stereotype
and they carried my bags back to my car! I so appreciated their help, and both just shrugged as if to say "well that's what you do, innit?" Bossymoo

This thread and the disagreement about motives reminds me of the episode of Friends where Phoebe is trying to find a truly altruistic thing to do and can't find one

I must admit the first post sat wrongly with me too ...it felt a bit self congratulatory.
Had it said "Tell us about random acts of kindness you have seen" rather than "that YOU have done" it would have been fine though.
In my experience people who make genuine random acts of kindness don't usually talk about them anyway
One thing I do is if I have helped someone and they want to "repay" I always say..... Just pay it forward sometime.
I know I've had friends comment on what I considered to be small things years later which could be called random acts of kindness ...which I barely or don't remember at all but they do

I do and say that too! it's from that film with Hayley Joel Osmont (sp?) isn't it. I think it's a great sentiment.
In the summer whilst on holiday we passed a homeless person and we gave him a couple of quid, then we went to get a fish and chip tea sat outside at a cafe. The cafe was closing and ended up giving us loads of food just to get rid. l took the extra tray of food and chips plus a drink back to the homeless man, his eyes lit up and he confessed he hadn't eaten all day.
We also used to be able to pass on tickets from the car park at our local hospital until they put a machine in where you have to put the first bit of your car registration number in.

Tbh I was thinking the other day about trying to do more for people, not quite sure what I wanted to do. And I think if this thread gets one person to think about what small efforts they might make for someone else, its certainly worth it.
I gave my neighbours a 25 quid tesco gift card for rescuing me when my ancient kitchen tap came off in my hand and my equally just as ancient stopcock wouldnt turn. Boy did I appreciate their help that day, if they hadnt been in the water would have brought their entire ceiling down.0 -
I'm in a Lost & Found Pets group on Facebook and I am constantly amazed at the kindness and dedication of the people in it. I did a supermarket collection for Cats Protection League a couple of weeks ago and as well as collecting money, we also collected food. I did two hours and at the start, the trolley was empty and by the end, it was almost full. One man came over and put a huge sack of food in, an expensive one too, so it must have cost him loads.0

In work we get a list of gender and age and a gift that they have said they would like to receive. This is sent to all staff and we choose 'who' to buy for. (Obviously it's not compulsory). We don't know who the child is personally and they don't know where it's come from.
We also give gifts suitable for older people.
Yesterday I was helping out at a Christmas lunch for some people in sheltered accommodation. For those who don't (or can't) get to the communal room, we took a plate of food and a cracker. It brought home to me how lonely life must be for some people when I thought 'Who will they pull the cracker with'.0 -
I would never dream of telling you what I do for charity.
Yuck you are all so indulgent you need to come here and get thanks.0 -
I'm not sure planning a charity event or paying for a job or volunteering counts as a random act of kindness ....... For me the fish and chip story was though.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
