Regarding LinkedIn... is it useful for people without a degree or 'career' as such? I hope that makes sense.

I'm on LinkedIn, but I've never been approached for anything and I'm in a career based position at the moment. I have a feeling the vast amounts of recruiters that are on LinkedIn, like seeing/searching for degrees. I rarely have any hits, 2 in the last 90 days, one recruiter, and my ex girlfriend (strangely enough). That being said, if I was looking for new roles, I'd probably add recruiters and get myself out there, but as I'm happy where I am, I don't bother at the moment.

I got a huge amount of response by posting my CV on Jobsite, reposted every Monday, I would get between 5-10 emails or calls each week, obviously not all roles were suitable for me, so maybe 1-2 possible job interview offers a week just from there, it's how I got my job at the moment.

Thank you for your reply, that was very helpful :) I've been reluctant in the past to make my CV searchable after being flooded with spam emails with no real job behind them. Although, I suppose it's a small price to pay to get it out there for real employers to see.

Out of my mind. Back in five minutes.

Advice I can give you for that is to set up an email address specifically for work. At my old place, we actually turned away someone for having a ridiculous email address on their CV. I'm not saying you have, but it's nice to have something specifically for job hunting, I use my initials and last name. You may get some spam, but better rooting out potential employers from spam, rather than potential employers, spam and personal emails, too.

Do that and have nothing but job emails going there, maybe link it to your LinkedIn account too. I used to do it with a spare pay as you go phone too, no-one personal knew the number, I knew if the phone rang, it was a potential employer.

Probably because, at least in my eyes, this particular poster comes across as either a troll, or ignores all advice based posts to become more employable/accuses people of being homophobic, only responding to those they don't agree with. Given I grew up with the internet, if I had to guess, I would say the OPs reactions and mannerisms are that of an internet troll.

Some of their posts are beyond ridiculous in my eyes, like asking people to find employers for them. Too many excuses and too little proactivity.

If they are a troll they are very dedicate, they are on several different websites.

Really? I only really browse this one. As I mentioned on a previous post, it was just the way they react and they're mannerisms, as if to try and induce a reaction from people, that's just what it looks like to me.

As someone who used to browse gaming websites a lot, you become adept at spotting trolling methods and mannerisms, I'm probably mistaken in this case.

  • I personally think it´s the best time possible to send out applications. companies renew their budgets for January and realise they have money available to hire new people for next year...

It´s also a time when the chances of getting a call are very random... they might call you to come in for the next day because it is just before people in HR or the selection process are about to go on holidays so they want to select the person before they leave... that´s good if you´re actively looking... in fact thats what happened to my girlfriend who was contacted yesterday for an interview for today since the person in charge is going on holidays on Friday and they´re in a bit of a rush to find the right person... you never know... maybe they do not call until after new years...

I´d say to continue sending out applications but take it a bit easy in the evenings and next week. :-)

Good luck with the job hunting guys.
