Having said that - intrigued by the LinkedIn comment. I am not unemployed but am looking for new opportunities right now. I have never used it - kind of thought it was something akin to facebook. I am guessing not now though so am off to take a look.
I thought everyone used it. Its how people get head hunted and where a lot of big companies post jobs and you apply via the LinkedIn profile so they can see your recommendations etc.

Huh. Not me. Mind you, I cant imagine being head hunted to be honest but definitely going to look into it now.

Why do I suddenly get the feeling that the jobs market has changed a bit since I last looked for anything (about 8 years ago)? lol

LinkedIn started in 2003 (so 10 years) and I have been on it for 4.

And have you had lots of job leads from it?

Probably because, at least in my eyes, this particular poster comes across as either a troll, or ignores all advice based posts to become more employable....

I don't think he's a troll, but he does regularly ask for advice re job hunting so I don't think he should throw his toys out of the pram when he gets offered it.

Linkedin can be useful. I got my job via Linkedin, a recruitment consultant contacted me after seeing my profile.

I usually get contacted at least once or twice a week with a job lead, and the last 4 jobs I have had are a direct result of using LinkedIn.

I got my current job by applying through LinkedIn - my company advertised nowhere else.

Maybe my definition of a troll is a little different, but I get this idea from the amount of contradictions that come from the poster.

But yes, he does seem to be getting a negative reputation, whether that's deserved or not is down to how people perceive him. In my opinion, given how much advice is ignored, I'd say posting excuses here is to somehow justify to random strangers that it's not their fault they're unemployed.

People ask whether he does something because that is the course of action a majority of people would take, however we never get a response, you have to ask yourself why? Why ask for advice, seemingly ignore it and never respond to people seeing if he followed that advice. It makes no sense. But it is becoming a recurring thing with this poster, hence being brought up more and more, this thread being an example. People will soon get fed up of trying to help this user as they realise what they say is futile, I realised this a while back. However the OP thinks this is 'bullying'.

  • Regarding LinkedIn... is it useful for people without a degree or 'career' as such? I hope that makes sense.

Out of my mind. Back in five minutes.
