Hoxton is a dive I'm not suprised they can't give the rooms away, I grew up round there and once it was beautiful now it is over flowing with guns, drugs and prostitutes, the real people are being smoothered, so why anyone would want to stay in a hotel there I don't know. But good luck if you do and make sure you're wearing a bullet proof vest!

Is the area really that rough?

I went to Hoxton last summer for a night out at a comedy club.
I'd say it's a trendy up and coming area, right on the edge of the City of London, great location for travelling to the city and west end.

I did live nearby some years ago and now the area is changing for the better.

I know i thought it was really rough too. I hate going from the subway from the train to the hotel. There were really dodgy drunks at the exit you need for the Hoxton . The hotel is really nice though.

Well the deal is great for me, hope I get a room, I can get the train to london for 10 poundsish, and I don't care if the areas rough, I wouldn't plan on leaving the hotel room after 4ish :)

I stayed there for the £1 room offer last time and went to some really nice bars. It was pretty quiet during the day and we had a really good time there.

crandy07 - if Hoxton is the only area you've been offered drugs in London then you can't have visited much of London! I get offered drugs every time I visit Camden or Brixton.

You get drunks/bums outside lots of tube stations, it's fairly normal. I've never experienced problems with them. If you leave them alone they'll leave you alone.

Hoxton is a relatively safe area. It's becoming trendy and there are lots of good bars around the area - check out Lounge Lover: http://www.worldsbestbars.com/city/city-east-london/lounge-lover-london.htm

George and the Dragon is an interestingly decorated pub too: http://www.beerintheevening.com/pubs/s/26/2684/George_and_Dragon/Shoreditch
