Not to be confused with spoon-feeding.

    .....

Re petrol pumps, it's almost definitely an 'online' card that is unlikely to work.
Yes, I do take your point re spoon feeding but in my defence I was looking for specific information that was not on the site. As I said earlier, I am unclear about the differences between the various types of cards. Now I know it is a Visa debit card thanks to you for taking the time to find your old card which I genuinely appreciate :) Next, how to understand the specifics of the various types of Visa debit cards !

That said, I find the information on Nationwide website not clear as I am pretty sure my card could be used in any UK ATMs, not just for withdrawing cash at PO.

Huh? They can't possibly be much clearer than they are, on the link you provided.
-A cash card which enables you to withdraw money at any Post Office® branch, pay for goods and services in shops, online and over the phone plus get cashback in certain UK stores.
-Withdraw money and check your balance using our ATM network.

There's basically 2. To make it simple:

One works everywhere. Think planes, trains, and automated services where its impossible to return the goods, such as Pay@Pump.

The other only works with a bank connection. This version will try its best to ensure you don't go overdrawn by checking your balance before authorising payment. If it can't do that, it'll most likely decline the transaction.

If you don't know if your card works at a Pay@Pump, just try it. The worst thing that can happen is it just gets declined and you go elsewhere for fuel.

EDIT: Remove text about masked men and machine guns.

Maybe you found a page which I could not see, all I found was

"A cash card which enables you to withdraw money at any Post Office® branch, pay for goods and services in shops, online and over the phone plus get cashback in certain UK stores.
Withdraw money and check your balance using our ATM network."

It does not sayit is a Visa Debit card or if it could be used in any m/c's other than the post office or their own branch network.

    Anyway, I know now :)

For some reason Hominu haven't quoted the last line and haven't double-checked.

I think they could be clearer by pointing out the card could be used in any ATM not just those in their own branch network. I am not near a Nationwide branch so it makes a big difference to me.

Thanks :) understand. There is an Asda near me that only accepts cards (it is a fully automatic system with no cashier) so I will make sure I avoid it !

Well, they are saying the cash card can be used at their ATM network (and at the PO) to withdraw cash. Why do you then think it can be used at any ATM?

    because of this post
    Hello Clare,

I have had a very good experience with Nationwide so far although I have only been banking with them for over just over a month.

The account allows withdrawals at any ATM (Well, at least the ones I've come across) and Direct Debits and Standing Orders are allowed. I've just recently completed the process of moving my few DD's over.
