well.. the only food I've ever boguht from M&S was a twix.. lol.
I would just simply begrudge every penny I paid over the odds... tight as a nuns knicker elastic me!! I would want to frame the food rather than eat it the prices I've seen on some of it!
My ex-stepmother used to buy loads of food there.. potatoes for example.. duh.. WHY??LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
Grrrr. I blame a big whack of my debt problem on M&S.
Had an account card when I was a student (probably signed up for 10% off a pair of tights or something), but was of course always skint, so ended up in the ridiculous situation of having no real money so buying a basket of lovely overpriced M&S food.
There was a studenty irony in not being able to afford Asda but whacking £25 on an account card for the ubiquitous crispbakes and 1litre bottles of wine...
Needless to say, when they changed the account cards into credit cards and gave me a whopping limit, I used it. I now owe them £5,500.
Debt sucks, M&S credit cards suck (though the shiny blackness sucked me in) and not having your LBM until the bills are humongous sucks worst of all!:o0 -
Plum Pie - how amazing that we live so close ! I presume you know the butchers I'm talking of ? As you walk from Holloway Rd., it's on the right ? That fishmonger a few shops away is also good, tho not especially cheap. Have you discovered the Kosovan nut seller in the Nags Head Market ? We are big on nuts here in roots towers, and things like pine nuts, almonds, pistachios much cheaper than anywhere else. I'd be interested to hear of any good places you've found locally. We are so fortunate to be able to walk to these shops, and to Waitrose, M&S and Boots if we want. Not everyone in the UK has that kind of choice. All Art is the transfiguration of the commonplace

I worked at the biscuit factory, and M&S cheddars were made from a different recipie than the others.Anyone who lives within their means suffers from a lack of imagination:beer:

I go there a bit more regularly than I should. I like their fruit and do tend to find it is better quality and lasts longer than other supermarkets. I don't buy any other things there generally other than a few dips (they do one that I can't find elsewhere). I also love their fudge bars!MFIT No. 810

I sometimes buy M&S meat, and their Oakham chickens when they are half price.
On another note, I find that I can trust M&S food as they use hardly any artificial ingredients in any of their food. This is presumably why most of the items have short dates and can go off quickly though?Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. Generally, I find M&S fresh food to be pretty disappointing. It looks very good but tastes of nothing.
Waitrose is definitely the best supermarket - the food is the best as is the service. And at the one in Wapping they always had wine tasting mid-afternoon on a Saturday and a Sunday. In there for a glass of wine and get the shopping and then across the square to the pub to watch the match.0 -
M & S food is really overpriced, especially items like cherries. I once heard a radio discussion about their pricing policy and their spokesman said "we charge what the market will bear". In other words - if people are stupid enough to pay our inflated prices, we'll keep charging them".0

Isn't that the same with any company? For example, I charge Big Bank £x p/h for my services. Other banks offer me work from time-to-time at rates of £x-7 to £x-2. I turn them down as I want to charge 'what the market will bear'.0
