It's not just food, it's M&S profits

There is no way I could afford to do a big food shop there (or even wish to) but occasionally I will nip in and see if they have any bargains. My sister is always buying from there but I think she has more money than sense sometimes although I'd better keep my mouth shut as she often gives the M&S giveaways to me!0

I buy their Rutland Chicken which is more expensive than their competitors because the flavour is so much better. I dont buy ready meals and cook from scratch and I make my own cakes etc. Their bread and buns are lovely and it depends at the end of the day where you want to spend your money. I never saw the point of buying cr*p food because it is " cheap" and you end up throwing it out. I dont smoke or have a partner( unfortunately!) so would rather spend my money as I choose!0

The adverts drive me barmy.
This isn't just any old chicken.. its a lovingly hand fed luxury grown super fat organic sleeps-in-a-bed re-mortgage-your-house expensive chicken.
These aren't any old potatoes....
Yes, they are - they're bloody spuds. Shut up you stupid woman.0 -
I always buy M&S coleslaw, its the best!! Used to work there, boy do i miss the staff shop!!
Its a place to buy a few treats, not do your weekly shop.
I think thats it in a nutshell.
I sometimes get biscuits & cakes in M&S and sometimes their sausages & cooked meat & chickens & bits'n'bobs.
I like their Chinese meals too & their air freshners.
Waitrose is a little pricy, but even if you had pots of money you couldn't get EVERYTHING in M&S (they don't sell mr muscle & cif & vaporesse ect), but you can at least get all you need in Waitrose. I don't use Waitrose either for "trolly" shopping, just "basket" full shopping.0 -
When my sister worked for a factory couple of years ago same chickens were priced up for M&S that were priced as ASDA smart price the day before. They didn't change the chickens, just the price labels. I think StIvel make the yoghurts. Seeing as none of it seems to be 'M&S Food' as it's all made somewhere else I can't see the point paying extra for it.
Definately couldn't afford to do all my shopping in M&S or Waitrose even, ventured in there once, WOW very expensive! One day I might be more organised...........

Yup - I temped at a factory for a few days that made the St Ivel stuff and the same stuff went into different pots for M & S.
I was going to buy some smoked mackerel the other day but decided to get it at Tesco's instead - where it was more expensive!!!! :eek:Noli nothis permittere te terere

I think M&S is the kind of place you pop in to now and then to search out whats on offer. As long as you have the willpower to avoid temptation on ready made stuff then I think there are bargains to be had. Their fruit and veg is very expensive but it is fantastic quality and keeps very well. I agree that the mince and meat are worth the journey but then local shops are very expensive so M&S compares well.Toxic & Tired - Starting 2010 afresh :beer:0

I look at MandS as a treat now and then. usually nice deserts or sandwiches when in town (cheaper than eating out
) I dont want to buy my fruit and veg in cling wrapped plastic trays. I certainly wounldnt do a weekly shop there.
