Nationwide Breach of DPA

Secondly to the poster regarding Tax. for the past six years of saving this X amount it has been in a 0% interest savings account and since this account is now closed it made no interest
The point is that you have now (apparently) made a gift of a large sum of money to your child and this money is in an interest bearing account that is not a CTF/JISA - if this is the case, you need to be aware of the £100 rule.0 -
Just wondering, did the bank ask for address history?
You say you have not lived at that address for over a year, and financial institutions usually ask for 3 years of address history. Could you have provided this and then they perhaps typed the old address as the new one?0 -
That's a lot of reading when you could have just put a summary:
"Annoyed at the bank as they set up the account using an old address, so sent opening documents to that address. Now I'm scared someone will pretend to be me".0 -
I agree that 300 seems reasonable. As for an explanation, assuming the op never had a previous account there, the likely explanation is that it was taken from a credit reference check and someone cocked up when manually entering an address. Whilst the op wasnt applying for credit the bank would have had to do a money laundering check which would include credit reference.0

Don't get me wrong - I don't blame you for trying it to see if you can get more. While a few people on here claim to sit on some kind of pedestal, if there was a (legal!) way for me to get more money out of my bank then I'd do so without hesitation. But while I have no problem with trying to get more, I have a big problem with insisting you deserve more - which many people on here do (I know you didn't).
This is not about the compensation, though i do admit its nice they recognized the time i spent trying to not have my financial details and my identity not being taken fraudulently.
This is about how they got this my former address in the first place. and yes i did have to take time of to ensure all my details are erased from their database to ensure no illegal activities take place had my account still been there.
I only brought up the query on MSE as i was unsure if £300 was a reasonable amount for them Breaching DPA and i am telling this is Breaching DPA0 -

This was what was entering my mind aswell.0 -
Thank you all for commenting.
further to my last post, i have had a call from the case handler at NW, who has confirmed the only detail they had as a profile was my name and my D.O.B. in 2006, but no address! but they have confirmed someone at NW (she did not name the employee) checked my credit report and also the electrol roll (which was updated for those who will comment that it was my fault for not ensuring that was updated) and used my previous address which was wrong of them to do and the relevant employee is apparently being dealt with in line with their procedure of this breach.
she also acknowledged that someone should of cross referenced the details of the application form and alarms should of been raised when the details on the system and application form did not match. and some one should of contacted me before things went to the level that it did.
they have upped the apology amount (or keep quiet) to a further £150 for this error. which i have said i will let them know once i receive their final response in writing.
thanks to who have commented0 -

I do not deny human Error, but this was more than that, they took an address by searching my credit report in an stance where they weren't suppose too. weather this was was done accidentally or not (only they know) they went into my credit report without authorisation. and they did not process my details in fair and lawful way as stipulated in the DPA
I was not applying for credit, nor was borrowing anything from them for them to go into my credit report.0
