Having had company cars for 15 years and despite doing 50,000 miles per year with no accidents, I found myself with no no-claims discount when it came to buying my own car. After hunting around extensively the price from igo4-wise driving was substantially cheaper than every one else.

I originally had an old Volvo, the brakes went, so I went to a car supermarket and bought a year old VW, which subsequently had a fault that I was not happy living with so changed it again for another car. Each time they have charged me over £200 for changing the vehicle and £120 for installing a new black box in the car.

So my initial saving of just over £200 has now been taken up by around £660 for changing my car through no fault of my own.

I would also question there ratings under the driving skills. I was scoring good to excellent on all areas apart from acceleration. The only place I accelerate hard is on slip roads entering dual carriageways (I live in Peterborough and the slip roads are incredibly short). I was always taught to drive at around 50-55mph (lorry speeds) along the slip roads, then accelerate (or brake) into a gap; this was a police driver who taught me! I score 13 out of 100 on acceleration!

I wish I had read this thread before taking out insurance for my son with these crooks! He got a car and insured it under a provisional licence and when he changed it to a full at a letter date, they charged £3900 on top of the £1500! They never mentioned this at the beginning of it all as there are other companies we could have gone with.
I am disgusted at what they are charging an 18 year old student! I have reported it to the Ombudsman and hoping that even if they don't give me any money back, maybe they will be looked into to see how their practises are being handled. Please stay away!
  • This is how the cheap online providers make their money. Administration charges, cancellation fees, add-ons etc. They give the industry a bad name. Do your research, read their Terms of Business (they have to provide this) and understand what might happen if you move house, change your car, add a driver or even delete a driver. They hook you with a cheap quote and pray for what we call a mid-term adjustment so they can slap on a fee. There are some very good online brokers out there - and I hasten to add I am not one of them as motor insurance is not my area of specialism. But I know how they operate. So I repeat - do your research.

Hi... has anyone had any good experiences of this company or is this once you've signed they just start taking money left right and centre??

I'm up for renewal and wise driving came up at the cheapest. I've never heard of them until this year.

we are just coming to the end of a years insurance with wise driving and our experience wasn't that bad
there are things you have to keep a close eye on especially where the black box is concerned, I logged into the website to monitor the driving statistics almost daily and also kept an eye on policy details and new notifications and addressed any that came up immediately.
where the black box is concerned driving after 11pm would lower your score dramatically, any time between 5am and 11pm did not affect the score.
acceleration and braking was something to look out for, if you wasn't driving like your gran it would affect the score even accelerating on to a motorway had a negative affect. any sudden braking didn't go down well either
speed speaks for itself don't speed and your score will not be affected.
we managed to keep the overall score to 90% and above throughout the policy, the policy price started at £1,200 and within the first couple of months was reduced by £432 which was nice :) I half expected the policy to shoot back up in price but much to my surprise it didn't.
we have just informed wise driving we do not want to renew the policy at the end of term ( ends 30th june ) and it has been confirmed via email but as a precautionary measure we have also informed our bank to stop all payments related to wise driving ( last monthly payment has already been taken ) just in case

if you want the black box removed at the end of the insurance term they want £90 to remove it, my advice is just leave it there or get a competent person to remove it ( save being charged £90 ) after the policy has expired

all in all having that black box has been a worry and reading some of the nightmare reviews on the web ( after taking the policy out :( ) almost gave me sleepless nights.

the reason why we took the policy was because it was the cheapest quote with our daughter as a named main driver, for us it has worked out and saved us some money but if you are considering taking out insurance with a black box for similar reasons and the son / daughter is going to drive the car like they stole it or drive after 11pm it could end up costing you a fortune but if your pretty confident they are going to drive sensibly and not drive after 11pm it could save you some money

    Hi
Having had a ridiculously low quote for my son after a to bame accident, I decided to look for reviews on WiseDriving and immediately forund myself on the moneysavingexpert Forum

What disturbs me most is the fact I found and was quoted by Wisedrive after using moneysupermarkets car insurance comparison facility!!

After reading the reviews I have a massive loss of trust of MSM.COM
Who the heck can you trust online!
  • This company is set up to eek money of you. Declared a conviction for driving (Speeding 3pts) they said I didn't. took £125 first, then put up premium and charged admin fee, called them to say I declared this, they said I didn't.

Didn't except paper copy because (couldn't see edges of copy) $%£"! OMG, the pts where plain to see, clear as day,

Asked me to get my last 4 years no claims from previous 4 insurers....and have me 3 days to do it or premium goes up again.

Do not use this company..........I promise you they are awful. You have been warned.

Go somewhere else that offers a realistic price as there guys are dodgy.

Im with wise driving and I've never had any issues or problems. Infact they have reduced my monthly amount I pay £57 now and driving score of 89 they charge you based on your driving so if you speed, accelerate , sharp break or break to Much because of either too close to car ahead or speeding then have to quick break. Also they monitor you when your go round corners and the speed you go round corners and I do not have a curfew but I have seen them stated and it's after 11pm till 6pm but not sure about everyone else's as was told by many who are with them them they are advised to not drive after 11pm or if you have to too not make a habit of it. Remember you are charged based on your driving .

Reading through all of these reviews and thought I'd add my bit. Our experience per se, was not horrendous. We were charged an additional £247 mid premium with no explanation, but it may be that we went over our allocated mileage (new driver, underestimated how much he would be driving around). However we were on edge every time the driving score came through each month.

My real issue is the fact that although I called the company to confirm I was not renewing the policy, they still deemed it necessary to take £3,487.88 from my credit card the day before the renewal was due. I am still fighting five days on to get this back. It has taken me over the credit limit on my card, I've had to put money from my buffer savings on to the card to bring it back down. I've also incurred a £12 fee.

Wise Driving say that they have sent the money back, but the card provider says there is nothing pending on the account to come back in and doubt whether this has been actioned.

The company do not answer the phone - I spent 45 minutes on hold yesterday to try and sort this issue out.

While I continue to fight to reclaim my money (which incidently is more than I paid for a family of four to go on holiday this year), my credit worthiness is being ripped apart (not ideal as we were due to apply for a new mortgage next month), I am being charged additional interest on my credit card, over limit fees together with a higher minimum payment to meet at the end of the month (regardless of whether this money is refunded in time).

Please avoid this company like the plague. Unprofessional and completely hopeless at administration - that is if you are lucky to get through to them on the phone.

My advice, call the new insurance proposal line - they pick up instantly. Funny that. :)

They pick up at different times because teams are assigned to different posts but are all able to help with queries. The issue isnt the agents but the company's restrictions on what the agents can and can not do alot of the time things have to go through higher chanels which frustrates policy holders and then agents get abused through alot of the time no actual fault of there own. They can only say what they see and its never usually enough the agents a good 70% minimum feel the same and dont want to be there. Trust me, take my word for that one
