What car is it? Plenty of people out there who will come and collect and pay you for scrap, I wouldn't worry. Failing that cut the handbrake cables, push it into the road and ring the police.

If it is taxed they wont care a hoot if it is on the road legally, it could have to sit there for 11-12 months before it becomes illegal.

Our local council specifically state they will not remove abandoned vehicles from private land.

It seems my council will remove a vehicle you no longer want within 24 hours - but if it's abandoned and they can trace the owner then they'll be charged £200 plus £40 per day.

Well worth checking with your council as they obviously all have different rules & regs - and letting the current owners know of any charges like that. Although, as above, it is still their house, so I'd not do that until after completion!

Do you know if it has a valid tax disc?

Not without the correct documentation they won't!
  • I wouldn't push it into the street and I wouldn't damage it in any way. That could create a legal problem for you.

Sort it out through solicitors and get a deadline for action at which point you should have given notice that you intend to arrange the removal of the vehicle and the costs referred to the vehicle owner through his solicitors.

Yes, moving a car that doesn't belong to you is against the law, but, REALISTICALLY, I can't see the OP getting any comeback if they chose this path.

I agree with the letter giving them a deadline, but no one will remove a car without the proper paperwork. Therefore if I were the OP and there was no word after the deadline, I'd just move it on to the road. No need to break in to it to take off the hand break, just get a posse of friends to help you lift it!

It's trespassing, a civil matter. Park your vehicle in an expensive car park and let them know they are liable, soon move it

    This simply wouldn't work.
  • Is it properly Taxed? When does the tax disc expire? If the tax disc is expired Just report to DVLA and they will take it away happily!
