This morning I rang First Direct and sorted out changing my bank account, it took me a while on the phone but hopefully everything goes to plan and I get my switching bonus in 3 months time.

Next is to open a savings account with them @ 6%AER (no withdrawals)
  • Hi Jagger, just to say I did the same and switched to First Direct a couple of months ago in order to take advantage of the fantastic rate on their RS account and I am so happy I switched. They are such a good bank and the switch ran really smoothly.

I was one of the ones who started off ok last year then didn't complete :(. A bad pregnancy and stressful house move didn't help. I did make around 4 k which helped with the house move though.

I'm on maternity leave until June so I'll set a £2000 target and see what happens. Saving all my change in a sealed pot aswell so that won't be opened until December.

    Fingers crossed.
  • Went shopping today with my Christmas money and as usual didn't see much that I liked. So I thought I would be better putting some of the money into savings rather than fritter it away. I put £150 across to my emergency savings account.

I also counted up my collection of loose change and it was £19. This has been put into my Credit Union account.

I have £5k of my emergency savings spread over 2 x Nationwide Flex Direct Accounts (1 in my name, 1 in OHs name) so I have sent the monthly £1k into my account to ensure I get this months interest. I will withdraw it tomorrow and send it into OHs account. I am going to open the Clydesdale 4% current account too to put more of my savings at a better interest rate. I will probably do that tomorrow if the bank is open.
  • Hi, I'm new to the site (decided 2014 is the year to start saving!) Is there any chance I could join this? I'm aiming to save £3000.

    Thanks :)
