  • I've just set up a standing order for £100 pm premium bonds as part of my saving regime. Interest rates are so low that I thought it is worth a punt, and you never know, I could win a big prize !

(though on past experience I should be due for 25 quid every 30 years!:D)

More 'tilly tidies' to the Hamlet fund and my £7 per week standing order went out yesterday to my £365 in 365 days challenge fund. It's amazing how these little amounts build up!

I have put £760 into current year's ISA to top it up and will give consideration over the next few weeks as to where to put the rest until next year's starts in April. I am not a higher rate taxpayer so don't see the point in an S&S Isa at this stage so it may be back to premium bonds for a couple of months or an investment in solar panels. If only the savings rates were a little more encouraging...

I have £5k of my emergency savings spread over 2 x Nationwide Flex Direct Accounts (1 in my name, 1 in OHs name) so I have sent the monthly £1k into my account to ensure I get this months interest. I will withdraw it tomorrow and send it into OHs account. I am going to open the Clydesdale 4% current account too to put more of my savings at a better interest rate. I will probably do that tomorrow if the bank is open.

Thanks for posting this, I haven't really been on this site for a while apart from this last week and I noticed someone in another thread posting about having more than one account and switching money back and fourth, it's something which I am going to look into possibly doing.

I've done this - I've got 4 current accounts 3 of which I just use to save. On payday £1000 (there is a requirement for this to be paid in each month) circulates between all 4 accounts via direct debits.

It was a minor hassle setting it up (I fired off £1 test amounts to make sure I had the correct account details) but it looks after itself now. Certainly worth it for up to 6% interest.

This is a question for people who have multiple accounts (sorry if this should be posted somewhere else?)

    How do you do it?
Which accounts allow you to do this?

it says on most I've looked at that it's "excluding internal transfers" yet you need £500-£1000 per month to be deposited (from a wage I assume).

Please count me in for the challenge this year. I start the year with a £150 per month standing order for a regular saver. So that's £1,800 committed to start. Also going to list lots of book on Amazon this weekend to get me started.

Fruittea - are you wanting your target to be £12k?

  • My target will be £15,000 again after hitting that in 2013!! Iv "invested" £13,000 and left myself £2,000(one months expenses, which is scarily low) so I need to get cracking and stashing money away! So end of 2014 I'm going to keep it all in cash form so should be at £17,000 in total including last years cash left over.

Also got plans for paris, a summer holiday, new bathroom and I have £900 on credit card 0% until April that needs paid.....surely something else will pop up but that's the main one off expenses! I really need to get going, first payday of the year is 2 weeks today!! I have started though and I'm at £37/£15,000 so far!! So so motivated this year after hitting last years target!! Even spent the £350 over target on myself!!

Well and truly into saving mode this year, bring it on!!
