Hello,
I have been looking on the web for a cinema sound and dvd recorder, Pixmania come up as being the best price for both. My questions are as Pixmania are in France will the electricals be ours or France's, IE voltage and three pin plug.
What is their delivery like as they say they send it by Parcleforce.
(hope I have posted this in the right Place)
Any help at all would be great thanks
Nicky
Thanks for any help and advice given

france has the same voltage as us - just need adapter plug (well sometimes do with pixmania). The main probs come with them if anything goes wrong - nigh on impossible to get a satisfactory result. Well worth paying a little more and getting from a uk supplier where at least you're protected by distance selling regs or sale of goods act or you can actually visit them.

Have to say I've been put off pixmania, wasn't expecting power lead to be european with adapter thrown in. Also got someone else's printer delivered along with mine. I contacted pixmania and they told me to post it back to them, and they'd refund me!! Wasn't impressed and told them there was no way I was paying postage for their mistake. They agreed to send a courier to pick it up. Wasn't a good experience overall for me for the first and only time I ordered off them.

My delivery was fine on a camera I bought about 3 weeks ago from Pixmania. I won't be buying from them again though.

    Here's why:

    - Firstly, I didn't realise the thing would be French. Not just the power lead.. the manuals, software, everything is French. And a cable with a plug you wire up yourself.. because Ebuyer was out of stock on the camera I wanted and had been for a while. You can find Pixmania's cameras around the same price elsewhere, I found immediately after placing the order.

    - Secondly, Pixmania don't seem to do any proper branded camera memory. No Kingston, or Kodak, or Crucial, or anything.. none of it is branded, and I like to know what I'm buying.

    - Thirdly, they're very cheeky.
Place an order for one camera at £199inc vat. When you get to the checkout, its shot up to a good £225. The reason for this is they bundle some supposedly special "Zen Engagement" service contract with it, which among other things offers a pricematch guarantee and a refund if the product is faulty.
These shouldn't be extras at all. I expect this anyway.
*Also note the refund isn't cash - its a credit on your account to buy more stuff from Pixmania.

It also apparently gets you discounted camera accessories, but as their accessories are more expensive than elsewhere, its getting you nothing.
The most laughable of these "benefits" though, was the ability to contact them and ask questions about compatibility, etc. They're charging for pre-sales support now?
You could get the same answer from google, or the camera manufacturer's site.
    It costs £20 and isn't worth 20p.

When you look to remove this...engagement...thing, you can't just untick a box - you have to go through and read the cr4p about what it is, to get shot of it.

I believe they'd also tagged on something else I also had to remove before confirming my order.
I said I was happy for them to send me special offer emails, then wished I hadn't when I was receiving 3-4 a week from them. I unsubscribed myself and added them to my mental black list of places I no longer buy from..

Bought an expensive camera from them and the instructions were in French, completely useless. Emailed them for an English version and was told to download one, they didnt supply any written in English.

If you're talking about the mains plug I'm pretty sure that's not even legal, I thought they had to supply a wired plug or if a non-uk plug they must supply an adapter with it.

They should warn you that they're not supplying anything in English at the time of purchase.
As its Pixmania.co.UK I expected to receive products at least with English instructions. I wasn't aware of anything about this French malarkey.

And it's not a mains plug - its a 2-pin cable that looks like a shaver plug...might be a standard French cable - I'm not sure about French electrics.
You get a separate plug that after a lot of fiddling with - I realised I had to unscrew and kinda slot the French lead into, and screw the lot back together. It's an adapter of sorts, but needs a screwdriver. It's not that difficult once you realise that, and there's no bare wires involved, but its not particularly convenient, and if I'm buying a new product, I expect it to come with the right lead for me to just plug it in.
