I'm currently on a 'make do and mend' blitz. I repaired some clothing early last week (still need to change the elastic in one of only a few skirts I'm happy to wear), which has regained me a a long length, long sleeved top I'm very fond of and couple of jumpers amongst other bits.

Today I'm patching up the seat covers of my sofa! The suite is 12.5 years old, and a few months ago holes started to appear in them - a major problem even then as they were due to be washed, which I consider unwise with holes. Managed to find the receipt and contacted the company I bought them from. They still make the same suite, and even the covers in the same fabric (they're all fully removable and machine washable) which was great. Unfortunately the price caused a sharp intake of breath :( I can't get just the two seat covers I need, and a full set is almost as much as I paid for the sofa originally (the cost of a replacement sofa has also shot up, so still a lot cheaper to just replace the covers). So on Tuesday I called into a habadashery store and paid less than £3 for some fabric (similar weight and colour) and thread, and am now patching them up - first from the inside and then from the outside. Hopefully this will allow me to wash the covers and extend the life of them until such times as I can afford to get replacement and still eat ;) I think I'm also going to put a throw over them (certainly when I'm here on my own) to minimise the need for washing going foward.....

    Merry Christmas Everyone,

I have a dilema - on here way back in early part of the year someone posted a recipe for bread rolls that was so simple with no yeast - I made them - yummy but I did not write the recipe down - I have searched and searched the threads but there are so many!!!

Can anyone help, re-post or supply something similar? they were little soup rolls if that is any help.

Trying to get my head around the three day week which starts on Monday but I will get there xx

Re TV watching - I have an android app called Showbox which I managed to upload to my laptop through putting software called bluestacks on or will go on android phones or tablets by downloading an apk file. They have a fb page with links on or there's a good you-tube video. Believe me I'm not a techy but managed it!

It has lots of top movies on and TV series and is free, its American and legal (or 99% sure it is)!

And thank you for your replies re the meal, I think I was having a pmt / sensitive day. Like someone said being frugal has different definitions, I have definitely done better this year but there is still room for improvement.

Took DS2 out for birthday treat today (7 on NYE) We went with DS1 and 2 friends and did clay painting, I have a loyalty card so got £10 off and they had a lovely time and made something a bit different to keep. Then he chose Bella Italia for tea, I clubcard boosted some vouchers so 3 courses for 5 of us cost £8.50, I would never have thought to do that b4. So we had a lovely stress free day, under £50, no mess and 4 happy, tired boys. I may have been able to have a party at home cheaper but I think by the time I did food, games, prizes etc it would have probably cost not a lot less and I would have had a whole lot of mess!

    And a thumping headache too I expect:eek:

Sounds a lovely day and one they will all remember. A lot of fun for a frugal amount of money. Well done:T

    Hi all,

Hope you all enjoyed the Christmas festivities.

Back at work today and have just assessed the finances. I now know where my budget is going wrong each month - the cats cost me far more than I realised! I'm skint already and still 3 weeks until payday. It doesn't help that the CC took a bit of an unexpected hammering in December but I'm still on track to pay it off in January though the payment has eaten into this month's budget.

Oh well, I'm ready for 2015, new diary and amended budgets. and I'm feeling quietly optimistic :)
