  • years ago I think I ( 15 years plus) was one of the only ones buying the reduced stuff, along with the local farmers lol.. and people used to give a sorry sort of look. then over the years. more and more people cottoned on and started to look and buy, then people started being rude, and pushy when they reduced the stuff, so I stopped as sometimes it got quite abusive... now, if I am there i always have a quick look, i now have worked out the time the co-op do their final reductions, and as its only a little 'convienence' style shop there isn't loads of people doing their weekly shopping...

I am also in 2 minds to buy a few joints of beef in Asda, as its only £3.97-odd a kg...

The last time it was low in price a friend of ours bought over £200 worth of beef, and froze it... I will not go that far lol... but maybe a few joints for later in the new year...

My stock of loo rolls are going down, and when i went to Mr T earlier, the ones i normally buy wernt there, 6 for £1.99 so will see if Asda got any later...as i hope they are not going to stop selling them.. they are the best cheapest ones

    Happy Christmas Eve all :xmassmile

A busy but frugal day for me, no spending of funds but lots of last minute jobs to do that will keep myself and little one in the Christmas spirit.

*I have two gluten free Christmas cake loaves to ice. I borrowed my mum's Xmas decorations for the top of the cakes. I don't have my own and she isn't making cakes this year. It saves buying them and they have been on the family cakes for about 30 years so it will feel very special using them. Little one is decorating one cake all be herself. She is three and I am sure it will turn out something like the tree did, a vomit of tinsel and baubles all in one place... but it will be the best cake ever, as she decorated it. :heart2:
*I have a ham to cover in honey and cloves then bake. I shall pop some mince pies in the oven at the same time to utilise the energy to it's maximum.
*I have checked my bank account and all is well and away from the over-draft. Hopefully I will now be able to manage seven NSD's now... getting is practice for next year and the 2015 challenge. ;)
*We are talking the poochie for a long walk after lunch, we shall be adorned in Father Christmas hats. Little one will tire herself out running all the way and the dog will be a happy camper.
*I shall empty the ironing basket whilst LO watches Frozen this afternoon. I love that film almost as much as she does... the songs are soooo good.
*I am trimming and dyeing my own hair today... the dyes cost £10. At the salon I normally pay £60 for a cut and colour.... wish me luck. I may be spending Christmas day with a headscarf on.
*After leaving a mince pie for Santa and carrots for the reindeers, little one shall be bathed and off to bed early. I shall sort her presents out, stuff her stocking and then have a lovely soak myself before watching True Lies (a fav film of mine) which I recorded the other night. Then off to bed to await for the big day. :D

So I shall leave you all to crack on icing our cakes...

I hope you all have a productive or relaxing day, which ever you need and the big red fella comes tonight and delivers all your wishes for now and 2015.

I can never find YS bargains but then I don't go shopping after 5pm as I have the wee one and I am a single mum.
I must make an effort to have a trawl around the supermarkets early evening when wee one is at her father's for the evening, if I can stock up at least once a month it will certainly help with next year's frugal challenge. xx

Well my attempt to live frugally in 2014 was an epic failure. I did get a proper handle on my budgeting and spending though this year so I have reduced my expenditure and increased my savings significantly. I've learned that I'm just not a frugal person.

Pixie, maybe you didn't live as frugally as some on here do but it sounds like you've had some success. It depends on your definition of frugal I suppose. I think of it as being economical and thrifty.

    Merry Christmas everyone,

Our expenses for Christmas took a surprising downturn when DS2 was asked to go with friends to visit their family in Romania for Christmas & New Year.
He has been part of the traditional festivals, including going carol singing tonight.

Even though he is only 16½, it is an opportunity not to be missed as this is real life not the commercial view of a country.

He has funded the trip from his earnings at the local caravan park as well, not asked bank of mum & dad, which he said he was very pleased to be able to do.

And best for him real snow, as he is staying in the mountains for some of the time
